I really love good photography. At the time however, all that I have is a small digital camera. What would be the best quality camera for me to buy under $1000. I really want to take more pics of nature/outdoors and of any hunting/fishing kills and catches. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Canon makes great products. But, check out the Sony line of SLT's while you are looking. I have a Sony A57 and really like it. I feel like that model camera gives you the best bang for your buck in that price range.

This is like asking who the best bow maker is. Cannon does make a fine product. I however prefer Nikon. Main reason is Nikon has not changed there lens mount like cannon did a few years ago. This means that you may have an awesome lens from back when you were shooting film and that same lens will still attach and function on a dslr. It will only function in manual mode but none the less still work. When cannon switched to a different mount cannon users got screwed and had to replace a lot of lenses.

I have heard great things about the canon dslr's. There video quality has a slight edge to the nikon line up. look into maybe the canon 60d... ( maybe trevor can chime in here)

You can find the DSLR bodies for cheap, where you get into the expensive part is the lenses. Craigslist has many bodies & lenses but you can also score on amazon for decent lens deals.
