Just so everyone knows. Lickcreek AKA Dbltree AKA Paul Knox passed away a little over a year ago. So you won't be able to ask him any questions anymore.
Seems to me there might be a great opportunity for a forum such as bowhunting.com to see about striking a deal with QDMA to see if they can migrate all the information over here and have QDMA redirect traffic to this website. It seems like that could be mutually beneficial to both. Allow QDMA to save some face while getting out of the forum business and generate more traffic to bowhunting.com. Seems like a natural fit to me.
Here's to hoping we can pull a few of their really knowledgeable guys over here. It's the best resource online today for land management that I've found, and probably the forum I visit second most after here. Maybe we can rebuild it here?
There is some chatter that Pat is contacting Lindsay... So could be potential for those archives to in some way become one with deerbuilder.com.... Dunno just saying there is a chance. EDIT: Pat Lefemine of Bowsite, Deerbuilder, Leatherwall etc
I tried the same - there was no interest whatsoever. Lindsay has always been a good ally and we've worked together on a few things in the past so I don't know any reason he wouldn't be honest in saying their was no intent to sell, transfer, partner, etc. Unless Pat already has a deal I don't know about it sounds like they're just shutting 'er down.
Or.... NOT...lol "But they believe there is too much info specific to QDMA to risk that. There does not appear to be any opportunity to salvage those valuable archives" Pat
I have successfully made all the PDFs for that thread. If there is another thread that you guys know of that could use saving let me know and I will do that too
Yup QDMA wants all that info off the web. They want to control the message and get the info directly from them.
I imagine they'll open a new one for members only at some point. That organization likes it's money and doesn't like giving stuff away free to just everyone. I think they're too big to not have a forum...that just seems wrong. Oh well, maybe we'll pick up some good new members here, this forum is far better in every respect anyway.
I wonder if they are going to use the forum material to fill there magazine eventually and that is why they want to keep it all?
From a business perspective it makes sense. They make money by selling memberships and one of the big benefits of said membership is info you get from their magazine. If all of their members are giving away that info for free, then why pay to join? My guess is there were a lot of folks using that forum and getting info who weren't paying QDMA members.
Problem is..... their magazine sucks and even if it didn't suck it will never be able give anywhere amount of detailed info that was on that forum in the archives. In addition, the level of detail that the QDMA website or magazine gives is easily found via a Google search elsewhere. That forum was the only thing the QDMA actually offered that was worthwhile and they stopped it. I could see making it a pay site or need to have a membership to see it. But this was the wrong way to go about it IMO.
There are many different reasons I have never supported QDMA/QDM, but will not get into that here. I have to admit I have been laughing my *** off watching their fans go to haters in about ten seconds flat.
Looks like Lickcreek's wisdom was saved?? Dbltree's Corner - Land Stewarship - Outreach Outdoors Forums
Yeah that's a good site. I actually read his material over then when referencing vs. the thread on QDMA. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
