I have seen numerous posts praising the QAD HDX rest. I just had a huge malfunction 2 weeks before my season starts. My arrow rest on my bow actually broke in half. I really don't have $120 to purchase a new HDX. I found a QAD Ultra Rest for around $50. Has anyone tried one or are currently using one that can say they are happy/not happy with this rest? If not this rest, anyone have suggestions on another rest in the same price range. Thanks everyone. If anyone is curious, no, the rest that broke was not a QAD.
I jus put a QAD on my bow earlier this week and love it the little ive shot. Bow technician said in the many years of shooting and owning a shop he has seen virtually no QAD rest malfunction. And please someone correct me if im wrong but there very little difference between the HDX and the one right below it Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
As long as it's the HDX and not the Hunter model, you should be fine. My Charger came with the Hunter model. I had issues with fletching contact and I'm not the only person that had issues with it. I can vouch that the Limbdriver Pro V and Trophy Taker Smackdown Pro are great rests. You can find all kinds of used rests on the Archery Talk classifieds. The classifieds here is kind of slow. I've used Ultra rests on both my bows, they've worked great for me! I did have one that was freezing in place when I was hunting in 25° weather. Ruined that days hunt, I called QAD and they shipped a new one to my door at no cost. Good luck this season!!! -Simpleman-
Been useing qad HD for couple of years now bought off eBay have no complaints I've used the one for 50 dollars too without any complaints use mine alot for target partice Sent from my H1611 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I see you're in TN, so am I. The Bowfinger Medusa Max is heads and tails better built and 100% made here in TN. How far east are you of Nashville? I'm only 25 miles east but can set you up and get you timed before season starts. I actually went to Limbdriven.
i've had a QAD hunter rest for about 8 years, and i dont know if i'm just noticing now, but it seems to make noise when i pull back to full draw. it makes a clicking noise like it makes when you first "cock" the rest with your arrow knocked. Its subtle, but on a dead calm night I could see it biting me.. needless to say, i'll be switching next year
I've had the Ultra Rest for 2 seasons (going on 3.) Shot thousands of arrows through it with -0- issues. I set it up myself in minutes and I'm no bow tech. I also have a TT Smackdown that I like a lot, but not love like I do the QAD.
I didn't wait long enough to read BuffaloBill's post before making my purchase. I was quick to buy because of the shipping date. As I only have until the 23rd (opening day). I bought a QAD Ultra Rest Hunter. I will do a clearance check with it (something I have never done before) after tuning the bow. Thanks for the replies. ****ensCPA, Thanks for the offer. I live quite a ways east of you.
I've used a QAD Ultra HDX for the last 5 years and never had an issue. I can't recommend anything else really though because I've never used anything else. I know NAP has a new one out that is getting a lot of attention and very similar in the full capture design. Not sure on the pricing.
I believe you can go in any shop that sells/has your rest and they will replace it for free. QAD CS is great....they replaced all 3 QADs I had that failed. FWIW NAP Apache Carbons on my 3 bows now.
I'm in the same boat OP. I was shooting both of my bows yesterday, my hunting bow & back up. Both them had issues with the QAD ultra, my hunting bow is less than a month old, my back up is about 2yrs old. Both were failing to fall. The arrow would knock the arm down. Even had my back up knock a fletching off. So I'm current in a frenzy to get a couple of limb driven rest. Looking at the Smack Down Pro & Pro V. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I'm so undecided right now I don't know whether to crap or go blind. I absolutely LOVE my Medusa Max but I love the G5 Cmax as well and there's different qualities I like about each. In between 3D finishing in Aug and season opener coming up 9/23, there have been days I have changed back and forth with those rests 3-4 times in a day. I put my Medusa Max back on and decided I'd put some shrink tube on the launcher fork instead of felt. Worked fine until I held the heat gun on too long and it deformed my launcher. Really one of my more bone headed moves. Apparently the guys at Bowfinger either felt sorry for me or laughing their butts off at me but dropped one in the mail for me. Season opener is 9/23 and the last few weeks before season in between 3D ending and deer season beginning I get bow fever and can't LEAVE ANYTHING ALONE and screw up SO much during that time frame.
I've been shooting my Ultra Rest HDX for a few years with no problems. Only other drop away I've used is a PSE Top Gun Phantom. I liked it but was kind of a pain to dial in and get timed.
have had an HDX for about ten years and its been great. zero problems. have the hunter model on two other bows and no complaints. however I shoot feathers which removes any contact issue. the few times I shot blazer vanes through it I can't recall any contact but will check it next time I shoot.
Quick update. As BuffaloBill mentioned, he had clearance issues with his Hunter rest. I got mine installed, eyed it the best I could. Got out and shot the bow and did realize that I was having clearance issues myself. What I did to 'fix' the problem was just change the position of the cock vane. I have always shot an arrow with the cock vane down. I learned that by putting it to the right (facing the riser) solved the clearance problem. Got one more week before our season starts here in Tenn. All I have to do now is just shoot my bh a few times to make sure the bow is tuned and the bh is shooting even with my fp. Good luck to everyone on here and stay safe.
Just out of curiosity since I'm a tinkerer and can't leave well enough alone - I don't shoot a QAD but I do shoot a Bowfinger Medusa Max and have been toying with the thought of limb driven. Had a G5 Cmax for a bit and it was flawless. Got a buddy into archery recently and he just had to have that Cmax so I let him have it. Gander Mtn is out of business and Bass Pro dropped the Cmax and I don't order much online. So, I was thinking of giving the VT Pro V a shot, what did you not like about it - compared to the QAD.
