Picked up a ladder stand last week. Have the tree picked out and trail cams show activity. Instructions say it takes 2 or 3 people to put it up. It is a 2 man with 62 lb total weight. Problem is I don't have the luxury of additional help. No trees in the way for lifting it. Lot of short 3' cover all around. Any suggestions on how to go about putting it up alone? Figure I can walk it up ok?

Rather be safe than sorry. Get someone to help. Your season is going to suck if you end up in a wheelchair or hospital bed.

I bring an extension ladder and put a pully around the tree above where the stand will go string a cable and pull it up. I use my pick up to pull but it works great, also with the ladder you can safely set the upper straps rather than climbing up a partial secured stand to tie off the platform.

I've always put my ladder stands up by myself. Just takes caution. If you can get another ladder into the woods with you that works great, Can also use climbing sticks to get the top secured. Also bring a couple extra ratcheting tie downs. Connect them from each side of the ladder around the tree making sure it is above the ladder support to the tree.

No one around to help but the Mrs and she has liftng restrictions. Have 2 - 16' ladders but they are both used for 2 other hang on stands. I like the pulley rope setup. Cannot get a vehicle in there but can get a larger garden tractor there. Plan to use at least one more ratchet strap. Have a lineman's safety belt I plan to use - If I put a 10 step ladder strapped to the tree and the lineman's belt I should be able to attach the pulley high enough to pull it up that way. Have plenty of rope too. Guess I will give that a try.
Was thinking of walking it up but would have to anchor the bottom of the ladder some how so it would hinge and not kick out the wrong way.
    thanks for the suggestions.

I put mine up alone every year and I'm not one to push my luck and risk getting injured. I carry the pieces in and then put it together at the base of the tree, then Stand it up (walk it up) until I can get it leaned on the tree how I like it. then I always strap the support arm/rail that goes from the steps to the tree trunk so that secures onto the tree. I then slowly climb up and once I get to the top I quickly ratchet strap the seat/top to the tree, after hooking myself onto the tree with my safety lines. but I am sure two people would help this a great deal Hah.
best of luck and stay safe please

If you use the tractor you can just put it in park and set the brake and adjust the bottom as it goes up.

If you put it together and leave the bottom leg section off you may be able to lean it up on the tree like that. Then set the other set of legs up against the tree. Pick the stand strait up the tree high enough to get the last set of legs on. Then set it to the proper angle put the bottom support on. This is not easy but doable. I have don't several like this.

If you can't get the pulley higher than the stand platform, just attach it to one of the upper rungs of the ladder. If you can get 10 ft up, use the extra ratchet strap around the ladder and tree at that height. Should hold the platform tight. Should also be able to get the two straps that usually go from the platform around the tree and attach towards the bottom of the ladder from that extra ladder also.

You can also use two long pieces of rope and tie them to each side of the ladder stand at the top. Cross them behind the tree and tie to the opposite side at the bottom of the ladder. This will form an X that will help keep the stand from falling over while you set it up. Make sure the rope is as tight as you can get it. I personally always use an extension ladder. Much safer and easier.

Ill know more when I get it all to the tree. Decided against the tractor - will haul it all in the pickup. Will bring the Mrs. along to hold the legs as I pull it up. Will let you know in a couple hours how it went. Thanks for all the suggestions. Very helpful. Hope some others picked up some info that will benefit them also.

I did one by myself onetime, don't know if I can explain it very well, but I walked it up the tree starting with the seat against the tree and the bottom of ladder sticking away from the tree. I lifted the the seat up against the tree and pulled the ladder in, once you get it close to a 45 degree angle on the tree, you can go to the base of ladder and lift weight off the top and just kinda push and wiggle it up the tree.

Got it up and placed where I wanted it. One one of three trees in a group. With bad shoulders I can't do things like I did 30 years ago. Had the rope tied in the wrong place the first time. Could not get the pulley up high enough so had to go to the third step down. Got hung up on a knot sticking out among other obstacles but finally got it up. Legs went in the ground up to the first cross step so that end is not moving. One thing I do know, it is not coming down till I am through hunting for good. Would rather put up 3 hang on stands then a 2 man ladder stand, though I like the way you get in and out of it. Need to cut two small trees to clear a couple shooting lanes and will be all set, I hope.
