I'm tired of the media, and I have done some disaster relief work in the past but the link below was eye opening and paints the story of how dire the situation is in PR (and I expect other Caribbean islands) outside San Juan. Unlike Texas and Florida a convoy of utility trucks and aid groups can't easily access the island to restore basic services. The airport was closed most of the first week as the security fence was blown away. Once opened flights were limited. Most people can't/won't truly return to work till they feel their family and basic needs (security, food, water and ability to travel) are met. Stateside recovery work usually lasts for months or years from hurricanes, I suspect the damage in the carribean will take much longer especially since PR was effectively bankrupt. Help how you see fit. If your church/civic groups/town don't have disaster recovery groups or you have a basic plan for your family, you may want to take note. http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/340602-Sitrep-from-Puerto-Rico-post-hurricane
Twitter is probably more accurate than the media. I did read an article where the great San Juan mayor has not attended several meeting with the FEMA folks like several other mayors have. The mayors that have attended had no complaints about the response.
PR > San Juan I will reserve my opinions on the SJ mayor as I'd rather the thread not become political bs.
Yep, and I know now ocean has "lots of water" and it's "big water, really big water" You can't learn gems like that at University of Michigan. I do having a feeling this mayor is in somebodies pocket.
I have been from San Juan to Ponce and all over the island, very interesting place one side is rain forest, the middle of the island is high desert Ponce is just like any suburb in the states. The debt and corruption on the island is only going to slow the recovery. I am tentatively headed there in December or January to help with getting their landfills back up and running and rapid cell construction to take all the debris. Problem with PR you have to get the client to pay in advance because of past payment issues.
this ground is already plowed boys....move along. https://forums.bowhunting.com/threa...orida-but-not-puerto-rico.90687/#post-1370891
