Where did you read it? All the news I've seen today said 19 Republicans were there.

The Senate convened at 11:30, with 17 Republicans but no Democrats present. After a prayer and the pledge of allegiance, action was immediately disrupted by demonstrators in the gallery shouting, "Freedom, democracy, unions."

    No.

It would be inefficient if I couldn't get the rest of my tasks done (because of the aforementioned).....and the task I was missing paid a higher rate of return

As long as that isn't the case, it's the epitome of efficiency.

Is paying for lawn maintenance inefficient, if you have a day off.

Never said anything about the employees being lazy or wouldnt' survive in the real world of business. They just have it made in comparison (for the most part). You can't argue that it's two totally different worlds. I dont blame them really, I blame the system. If there's 9 guys to clean up a tree limb and only work for 4 of them, there's really nothing for the other 5 to do. What do they care? They get paid either way. Hell they're probably smarter than me. I should jump in on that action.

See above and tell me where I said anything about the employees being lazy or pathetic.

You put words in my mouth over several posts NY. And that comes from not understanding the root of my issue with some of the posts on here. That aside, I AGREE with most of what you have said my friend (if I can call you that). I actually respect your work ethic and your drive.

For the record if anyone really cares, I am for state rights, efficiency in public government, accountability in the public sector, and doing the right thing every time. I believe in protecting the tax payers dollar. In fact I think protecting the taxpayers dollars is of supreme importance.

One part of government that I HATE is "use or lose" spending. I see it every day at work and it makes me SICK. I used to debate with my superiors and explain to them that we are wasting tax dollars and they would respond, "we either use it or we won't get it again next year". :( UGGGGHhhhh.

So again NY, I admire many of your qualities but have some differences of opinion with some of your posts in regards to categorizing certain groups of public sector employees. No hard feelings.

I was just about to post a thread about this.

As a student in the UW system, this scares the **** outta me. Professors are talking about striking, and I'm not paying my own college education to sit at home.

95% of my classmates want this bill gone, but their opinion is being shaped by the professors.

The private sector has been dealing with this economy for years, the unemployment rate is high., everyone knows it. IMO, just because you're a state employee doesn't make you immune from this. Wisconsin is broke, we all have to work together, suck it up and keep teaching, at least you have a job.

Im a govt employee and yes it is awful that some in the public sector think that they are owed huge pensions on the backs of the private sector!! Lets face it, unions are out of control and are terribly political. I enjoy my job as I protect and serve everyday but in no way are we any different than private sector employees. And to fix the education process takes parenting first. No amount of money can fix the problem of dwindling academics. See you in the woods!!!!!!

Sure, Professors Teach! But now that you got me started.
This just goes to show how Dumbed up Corporate Sponsored talk shows have our country right now, they suck the brain right out of peoples heads. Anyone that stands by and lets someone like Walker, Christie or any other Rich, Corporate leg humping suck ass do away with our right to bargen for better wages and working conditions, while cutting taxes for the wealthy don't have a clue.

Getting me to stick up for the wealthy on tax breaks would be like getting me to raise my hand when someone yells, who wants half their pecker cut off!

What's next, right to organize? Bunch of fricken Commies. It has nothing to do with fixing a budget and everything to do with breaking unions. This is the reason Rupert Murdock donated one and a quarter million to the Republican Governors Ass. this last election.
    Bill Koch....... 100,000.00
    Bob Perry.......3.5 million
    Sheldon Adelson another million
and these are just ones off the top of my head.

Karl Rove himself broke it down as good as anyone this week that I know of. It's all about taking union money out of the Presidential Election. Unions are only 11.5 percent of the work force now. Funny thing is as union numbers go down, the gap between poverty and the wealthy grows much Larger. With union money out of the way Corporations not only control who gets elected but they control YOU!
To top it off with US Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia attached to the Koch industries Money Tit, it's a bleak looking future for the American middle class.

There should be a large gap between the wealthy and those in poverty, hell that's by definition.

Unions achieve nothing but achieving overcompensation for members work done, period... And with the recent precedent of bailing out companies who many think took a dive due to unions, there will be no end in sight. There was a place and time for unions, and that was close to a century ago...

I think govt work involves a lot of wasted money, even in education....just ask my mother who worked in education as a board member for 27 years.

If you want to REALLY see misused tax dollars, spend a day at your local social security office and see how many thousands of dollars go out daily to fully capable people who chose not to work.

Welfare, social security, and unemployment are the biggest problems w our country today IMO.

Most forget or have no clue..............

"The labor movement was the principal force that transformed misery and despair into hope and progress. Out of its bold struggles, economic and social reform gave birth to unemployment insurance, old-age pensions, government relief for the destitute and, above all, new wage levels that meant not mere survival but a tolerable life. The captains of industry did not lead this transformation; they resisted it until they were overcome. When in the thirties the wave of union organization crested over the nation, it carried to secure shores not only itself but the whole society."

—Speech to the state convention of the Illinois AFL-CIO, Oct. 7, 1965

One of the worse blanket statements I have ever seen on here and I've seen alot of dumb chit!
Tell me, what are you comparing your hourly lawn cutting wages against? A nurse, Policeman, Prison Guard, Fire Fighter, High School Teacher (I know I coulden't do that job), Iron Worker, you know the guys you see sitting on a 8" beam a couple hundred feet in the air eating their lunch, how about a Journeyman Electrician. I could go on, But I don't need to.
