Well that does not change the fact he jumped out the window!
And I'm pretty sure it won't have any bearing on the outcome of whats going on in Wisconsn.

She talks about raising children up out of poverty and even <gasp!> making sure they have health care as a key to good education. How wrong can she be. Everyone knows that they key to educating our children, our future, is to cut education funding, teacher compensation and fire all the bad teachers. Don't waste your money on that book ;) .

I can't seem to find a side to agree with here. I can't figure out what I dislike more - union stubbornness or government strong arming.

Thanks I almost just ordered in amazon, I was one click away from wasting money.

    Finland 3% poverty for childeren
    America 20% and rising?

Finalnd no charter schools or "no child left behind" laws and best in the world
America we pay Teachers too much, the Unions are at fault for everything
    Finland 100% Unionized

America The Jeff plan, just fire all their asses

How can we claim to be the "Greatest" in the world with 20% children living in poverty?

If you look at from a non bias view, they both are 100% at fault and have been for a lot of years. Not just strong arming, but the backdoor deal making that goes on when the Dems are in office.

so now, your solution is to become exactly like Finnland? I have been there, I sure don't want that much of a goverment controlled society.

Just gettting a hunting license, you have to take a test akin to the BAR exam. You even have to go out prove proficiency with a rifle by hitting running targets. Sounds all good, but I don't want that yoke on us.

We are better than them, by a longshot.

Our path is not much different as compared to other massive hegemonic powers throughout the world's history. Within the massive boundaries of a huge world power lies an impersonal existence amongst people and sets the stage for a never ending rat race.

And part of the problem Gary are the parents of these kids. We have parents that continue to have children over and over without any clear plan on how to raise those children within specific economic boundaries. For example, I work with a woman at work who has two children, one 15 and the other 10. They are both from different fathers and they don't pay a dime to help raise those kids. So what does the woman at my work do? She goes out and gets pregnant from a THIRD man and is now six months pregnant with twins. Guess who is going to be adding to that poverty statistic? Guess who is going to be paying for the POOR life choices of another person? You and I and it makes me sick.

It cracks me up when I see the US compared with another country. We are a total different beast. One is size and amount of people. Two, just cultures and demographics and the baggage it brings.

Anyone who has been to Finland lately might notice real quick that everyone looks alike, and even acts alike. Its not encouraged to go express yourself and your uniqueness. Same with Japan. I spent a lot of time in Japan. One culture, single idea on life.

I don't disagree at all, in fact I use same argument;) When people ask why are kids turned out so well, I say my wife and I had a plan.

How do we stop the bleeding or at least slow it down. I mean it's not the kids fault they were born to door knobs. Then the door knobs raise door knobs and the cycle goes round and round.

BC I was comparing the US to other world powers throughout history, not comparing it to another country today. Rome, Spain, England, they all became massive empires that engulfed the cultures of others and spread their influence globally through economic dealings. The result was a polarized society in which the gap between the rich and poor widened substantially throughout the "life" of the empire.

Sliv, when my working days are over I am heading up into the mountains somewhere in New Mexico. I will then walk into a teepee with an Indian medicine man.......and will give peace a chance!

If you watch the video I posted you would have heard we actually do better then Finland in our poor schools.

Where we get dragged down is areas with extreme poverty and is racially isolated.

She named a few, Detroit was first on the list:rock:
