Grandma was in the Hospital and almost dies from Aspiration Pneumonia, Medicare decided it was time to send her home so now they are dealing with that on top the Alzheimer's. Grandma only speaks Ukrainian now and it makes it difficult for me when I help out unless the wife or pops are in the room to translate. I have been her son, husband, father and whatever else they tell me she thinks.
Odds on a vote to get Walker recalled. 50%. Odds he actually will get recalled 10% IMO. The unions have amazing clout, money and organization. It takes a lot of signatures to force a vote. The union has the resources to pull it off. But the bottom line is the voters already spoke statewide. I'll say it again. Walker said he was going to do ALL of this pre-election. All we are hearing about is the Madison and Milwaukee folks. Once you take the state wide vote the same result will occur IMO. . We truly live in strange and unprecedented times.
All the Fact Checking Sights I seen are rateing his statement as false. If he could prove he did, it should be up on his site. Just saying.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like you might be changing your tune a bit??? Go to the Capitol on Saturday and actually see for yourself the people that are there Protesting, I have been there, its eye opening! Brad... I'll say it again..You are hung up on the UNION THING????? This is not just UNION MEMBERS PROTESTING, this is workers from Wisconsin...STATEWIDE, Protesting for ALL workers rights STATEWIDE... Union and non Union protesting TOGETHER because they understand what the outcome is! I would rather see all Wisconsin workers pay INCREASE instead of DECREASE.....
I can agree with that. Camp think about this, if there ever is a disaster in your area who is going to show up and help? The Koch brothers? Are the Union leaders going to show up? My guess is no, but the firemen, police and city and state workers will. Your neighbors will show up to help also. It's your neighbors who are working class, some union, some not. Right now with the last add the kock brothers paid for it pretty easy to tell they are pitting working class against working class people, Why? Because that is how they will win to get the legislation they want. Read the bill it's not all bad at all, to me it just leans to far to the right and not enough in the center. One of Walker ideas is to remove the cap on school voucher program, so anyone regardless of income can get state money and send their kid to private school. I send my kid to private school, I do not want the my state getting involved in where I send my kids to private school. That's what Private means IMO, and my wife and I make enough money to do so. Giving voucher to a family with lower income so they have a choice is fine, support it 100%. A family making what my wife and I make(or more) and using someone elses money to send their kid to private school just does not sit well with me. Why? Private schools can choose who comes to their school, so after the schools choose all the best, where does that leave they other students? Now that the public schools are defunded even more with less students. This is just one example, and I like the two party system, I never like it when one party get's too much control. Just like tthe Dems the last two years or the Rep the 6 before. Newt G and Bill Clinton worked great together IMO, it was a great contrast. These are not union member or public employees. They are our fellow Americans. Guess what they pay taxes also, they have bills also. The way the media is attacking them is crazy. One of my neighbors is a mail man, my step Dad(soon to be former) is a federal public employee and my neighbor across the street is a former UAW worker. I don't look at them as I just stated at all, their my neighbors and friends. When I need help their the first to show up. Here is a great quote from a teacher I got from facebook
Gary.. "One of Walker ideas is to remove the cap on school voucher program, so anyone regardless of income can get state money and send their kid to private school. I send my kid to private school, I do not want the my state getting involved in where I send my kids to private school. That's what Private means IMO, and my wife and I make enough money to do so. Now that the public schools are defunded even more with less students." I have a problem with the above bolded sentences Germ. I do NOT want my money going to fund another family so that they can send their kids to a private school. I have no problem if a family chooses to send their kid to another public school in the school district on the districts transportation dime. Please don't think I am coming across as heartless, but allowing families to take my tax dollars to send their kids to private schools when I cannot even afford (nor want) to send my kids to private schools does not sit well with me philosophically or monetarily.
How so? Does the state of MI waive your school taxes -- because your kids are in private school? They don't, here.
My state taxes the home owners to fund the public schools here in VA. So given Michigans little plan to give out free private education on the publics dime would be a case of double taxation here in Virginia. Tax the home owners to fund the public school system then tax them again to support someone else in their $10,000 a year choice to attend a private school. That sounds horrible.
This is not about MI or NC, read Walker's bill. Let me know how you interpret his voucher plan. I would like to hear your view
Just so you know, right now there is a cap I think it's around 35,000 and a family of 4 can get a voucher and a limit of 20,000 or so vouchers. Walker should have just layed of workers when they told him to go pound sand the first time. He would have had my support if he would have done so. Making them pay more is what they should do. If Walker went to negatiate in good faith the first time, and the union leaders told him no. He should have just started to lay people off. The workers have no one to blame. Buick City was GM's biggest plant here in Flint MI. GM came to the Union leaders to build what is called a flex body car. Union leadership said no 3 times, even had shirts made up(No Flex). GM came back the fourth time and closed buick city. Union members fired all their leades and jumped up and down for the flex body car, too late. I am not saying unions are right in Wisconsin case. Union leadership does need to change and work with whom ever is paying the bill. This us vs them mentality is not working. Funny becasue that is exaclty what right wing extreme folks are doing right now. Trying to pit middle class tax payers against public workers, who happen to be middle class. It needs to stop, becasue no side is going to win this battle IMO. Anyone catch the move Ohio did yesterday, only in Columbus can snake oil happen like it went down
Germ and I were talking about the budget, not collective bargaining. He ran on cutting spending. That is what he is doing. And I'm the one being accursed of being stuck on the union thing. lol. Joe, I know you feel good about the protests going on. But do you believe the majority of the state is on your side? If I had the choice I would rather see all Wisconsin workers pay decrease instead of increase. Including my own. Why? Because we have 3.6 billion shortfall per year. Based on this state having 5 million people that means we are overspending $720 per every man/women/child in this state. That is a scary number Joe. But why does it have to be everyone's increase or everyone's decrease? Why does it have to be in unison? How about the people that are overpaid why not decrease their wages and the people that are underpaid how about increase their wages? I am not "hung up" on the union thing. But it is a very important part of this debate. See the only way Walkers Budget is going to work is if him limits collective bargaining so that the local governments can reduce benefit compensation for their workers to deal with the state aid cuts Walker needs to do. He just can't cut state aid and let the local governments hanging. So he needs to give local governments the tools to deal with the coming state aid cuts. And that is why he needs to limit bargaining on benefits.
You know what all this reminds me of? The budget in my family. I mean there is an uncanny resemblence. I non-stop try to cut costs. From things that are the low hanging fruit. Not from things I find important to me, or feel should be important to my wife. Right or wrong. My wife on the other hand non-stop wants to find ways to spend more. No joke. She contends that "we have the money, its just my job to make it happen". She contends, that my hunting for instance can be cut from to enable her to spend more. Or she doesn't care where the money comes from, just make it happen. Same with WI. Public Union entitlements contend, that the moeny is there, just should be reallicated to them. The current goverment says, its not there. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Listen, any politician dem or repubs would and do accept funds from millionares. I am not sure why so many are so shocked that this governor accepted funds from these Koch Brothers. I guess it makes good news.
Post a link to the above? I have never heard any one from Wis say they have the money, on either side
Seriously Germ, you really need a reference and post to know that the public union workers, wants thier benefits and pay and bargaining to stay the same no matter if its there or not???? Guess I give folks way too much credit.
