I hung a stand 2 months ago in an open fields public land spot with a couple ponds and some timber. I hunted for the first time tonight and it looks like they did a controlled burn. Didn't see anything, not tracks, nothing.

Would you guys keep stand there or move it?

I would definitely move if no sign. Find nearest fresh/hot sign and setup.

A lot depends on why you thought it was a good spot to begin with. Some of the best public land spots I have ever found don’t show much sign because they are simple travel corridors that deer utilize. They can be fantastic during the rut when bucks are moving in daylight but it wouldn’t be unusual to not see a single deer in mid October from the same location.

After a controlled burn if you get any rain they should pile back in on a bunch of new tender and probably sweeter greens. So depends on how long ago the burn happened and what you saw.

Hopefully. It's been bone dry. Should have rained last night.

It is true they will be back in there after some good rain and sunshine so maybe leave that stand and concentrate on “greener pastures “ until then
