I shoot does ! Its a part of qdm. Shot one this year as a matter of fact in one of the plots, 26 yards. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Well, you do have an opinion and I read it. Not sure if I agree with it but hey, it's alright. Let me be clear, the law for Arkansas says you can leave a stand in the woods in a fixed location for 2 weeks. You can not cut/trim any trees or branches. This makes it hard for people who use climbers because where I found is filled Oak tree's that aren't very tall. I like to be 20+ feet off the ground when I hunt. You are complaining about your neighbor hunting 150 ft. away from your food plot you spend so much time managing and he takes the easy way out by dumping bait under his stand. Yea, I read where you said it's 2 gal per 40 acres and he's using to much. It's the same thing as me hunting public land. I get out there and shed hunt in March, I pay the $10 for maps from the forestry department and AGFC. I talk to the wardens to find out where the least populated areas are. I put in work, time, blood, sweat and tears to get **** done. Why should I let someone else use my stand? I originally stopped hunting public land because of idiots who would drive into the woods and set up camp where you were hunting. Would this piss you off? Shouldn't because according to you, it's public and they have the right to do this! Even though the law says it's illegal! I respect the laws of public land. I've gotten permission from the Game Warden to leave my stand in an area for extended periods of time.
I've never used or seen one in person. I looked at the video and it just looks like a car belt. I have a summit stand, it's old and been refinished a few times lol. I like my stand but I want something I can hunt crooked trees or trees with branches all the way to the ground for that matter. Don't have to be so picky of where I hunt.
That is the law in this state. A button buck is legal if the horns are under 2" in length. It still counts as a buck according to the Arkansas Game and Fish website.
First - not every state has the same laws as your Wisconsin's "God's Country" (and thank God for that- baiting allowed ANYWHERE in a state where half the counties test positive for CWD- MORONS.) Indiana, Illinois (some zones,) Michigan, and I'm sure many others, all allow folks to leave their stands up on public lands for extended periods. So long as the law allows, I'll leave and lock my stands, take my sticks, and hide my climbers to avoid thieving jaggoffs every time. And for you to cast aspersions on unknown others' efforts, and how "not fair" it is for me and/or others to "claim" an area on public land, is just ignorant. It's obvious (even prior to your admission) that you have never hunted public land. Trust me, I guarandamn-tee you don't scout as hard, hike as far, or lug near the amount of equipment in and out a lot of us public land hunters have to to each and every hunt, much less per season. I regularly hike in and set 1-2 miles (or more) from the nearest parking spot or legal road. Guys like me don't have the luxury of trucking in gear on two-tracks or ATVs. I get to my spot and I see another hunter beat me into the woods and is sitting in "my" area; oh, well - he's a better hunter than me that day. I pack up and move on. Almost every public land bow hunter I know feels the same way. (I catch someone messing with my equipment, i.e. cutting locks; is a different story.) So if I want to hide and lock a 20lb climber or a 100lb ladder stand in the woods for a month or two, the law allows it, and I have some padlocks and cables to spare; who the Hell do you think you are to criticize me or others like me?
God damn. Why is it that in a free country you cant comment on something without people freaking out. Im not telling people they cant ! If the law allows you to do that then fine, do it. In my state you cannot do that, there for people that do are pieces if **** violators ! And in wisconsin if you shoot a buck under three inches you tag it with a doe tag. How is it unfair???....its lawful and anyone can do it.....he scouted....did his homework.....and set up.....anyone walking into that spot blind had every opportunity to do the same exact thing......prepare.....theres absolutely nothing wrong with that......hes not claiming that spot for the season.....hes cutting the work down for himself for one or two hunts maybe Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Maybe so. But you did say this: "Hiding your stand and taking the climbing sticks down to prevent someone else from using it is ridiculous. All it means is your claiming where your hunting before hand and you shouldnt be able to do it. Its not fair to anybody else hunting there. You should have to put it up and take it down during each hunt. Its only fair to everybody that way." You don't hunt public land, so you have no idea what you're talking about. Other than advocating arcane laws specific to your state, you have absolutely ground to stand on in this instance. Your "logic" is based on lack of experience. That's what got me riled up. Hey, as far as Wisconsin goes, I agree with not doing it, but only due to the law. It's an asinine law, but the law nonetheless. I don't want to get a ticket or my stands seized. That's also why I only hunt private land in WI. That way I don't have to worry about that, baiting in a CWD area, and/or other oddities. You're probably a good guy but as I said; just a little bit ignorant on this issue. Come hunt the public land cedar swap a mile and a half deep that we go to in mid Michigan. I guarantee you will leave your stand up after your first sit- unless you're packing it and a tagged deer out!
i hunt public land in texas and i use a Summit climber one thing i have noticed here is very few people hunt public land during bow season. However, when shotgun season starts its pretty much game over. Shotgun season attracts all the morons that pay no attention to the basics like scent control and wind direction. Public land hunting can be great if you do your homework. I never hunt near roads and avoid areas with other hunters and i try my best to meet all the hunters i come across an let them know which general area im hunting and often they will tell you were they hunt as well this makes things safer and more productive. Also i spend about as much time tracking humans as I do deer, if you find human tracks I always assume the worst and go deeper in the woods. I usually leave my climber weather permitting for several days at a time but I never hunt near parking areas or traffic trails. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
I use a Lonewolf climber myself. You can climb past limbs very easily if you know what you were doing.
Man am I glad I don't hunt were a lot of you guys do! In my state we are allowed to leave stands up from aug-feb. The public ground I hunt is nearly 8ooo acres, archery only, and all walkin! I find many fellow hunters stands every season, and most of these guys I never bump into. One stand is only 80 yards from one of mine. Never had a problem with anyone. Just because a stand is there doesn't mean you cant hunt a place. I still hunt a lot and pass by or even sit close to other stands. But if I know a hunter is there I will circle way out of the way. Alittle hunter etiquette goes along way! As far as leaving stands on public, you better chain it up!
Public land I need some help with this public land that I'm going to try hunting its hills and bluffs fields on top
exactly what I was going to ask. Plus, need to know if that squiggly line running E/W about 1 inch from the the bottom of the pic is a creek bed. Need more info to be truly helpful, but in general any one of those draws leading from the woods to the fields is a good place to start. I also see what appears to be a decent stream that just borders the western edge. Depending on additional water sources, that could also be a good place to look into. If nothing else you can see if they're crossing a lot there.
