starting to realize that private has way more thefts than public. I guess when you are someplace where you shouldn't be they are subject to take the cam to cover the evidence. public who cares if your pic just got taken so no need to steal it.

Good point about a cam more likely to be taken on private. They don't want to leave the evidence. I hate thieves. Someone who takes something from someone because they are lazy and don't earn it themselves just makes my blood boil.

It wouldn't even be the fact that I was out a camera so much as getting excited I was going to have a month or two of pics to go through and end up with nothing.

I used to only hunt private until I realized I wasn't alone. weird crap was happening that shouldn't have been. after a while I just gave up on battling the d bags and went to huge tracts of public. heck in my area public holds way bigger bucks than private anyway. all the best hunters in my area all now moved to public ground. we don't get nonres hunters to pressure our area like most of you guys.

north west and north east illinois public land is seriously the worst to hunt it was named by 3 magazines as the worst and I totally agree with them our dnr does noithing to manage our heards or make them better like every other state all we do is bring out sharp shooters and kill then all off and hope they repopulate and come back strong that's so stupid.

Be patient, the technology is improving, many models require a code to be operable and eventually gps trackers will be the norm and more reasonably priced, and the cellular cams that instantly send a photo to your phone have actually transmitted (and saved) novice thief's faces before they get it ripped off the tree. But I suppose then thief's will just destroy them on sight. Always, always register the serial number thru the manufacturer and report that same number if its stolen (to LEIN via law enforcement)to L/E with the make and model. We recover stolen firearms all the time - sometimes from 40 or 50 years ago. We recover ATV's, Outboard motors, snowmobiles and especially jet skis frequently as a good law enforcement official will always run suspicious equipment thru LEIN (law enforcement information database). Always prosecute if your a victim of theft, or your just enabling and facilitating bad behavior!!!!!!

I haven't lost a camera but ive had a lock on and ladder taken. while I was doing some scouting on public land I hunt regular I saw a guys camera on a small tree overlooking a couple of scrapes. I believe in my hunting ethics so I wouldn't think of taking it , but I did have some fun giving him some unique shots , no I didn't moon him but he might have laughed when I walked by with some branch antlers on my head and made my own scrape. !!!!!

I found a climbing stand on public land last night. I saw it after I was already in my climber 35 yards away. It was in a good spot for the opposite wind. I did go over after dark and see that it was labeled per state law with name address and phone number. Some guy from Alabama. I hope he kills a big one. I wouldn't think of taking his stand.

Years ago, I use to belong to a forum about cutting wood and heating with wood. There was lots of threads about guys having firewood stolen. Guys would cut it in the woods them come back a few days later and find it gone. Guys had it stolen from their property. One guy had a load delivered at his house while he was at work and before he came home someone took it all. A neighbor saw,a black pickup loading it up and just thought it was a buddy of his.

Anyway, one guy on the forum told a story about a buddy he had. The guy constantly had wood stolen from his yard. He decided on revenge. He took a chunk of wood and drilled a 1 in. Dia. Hole in it. He then dumped some black powder in the hole and glued a wood plus in the hole. He set it on his wood pile and knew never to carry that one into the house.

Pretty dangerous if you ask me but you have to admire the brilliance.
