You always hear of folks getting their cams stolen on public land, so I wanted to share about how mine didn't get stolen. I always cringe when I get a pic of somebody on my cams, and I've gotten numerous ones over the 15 years of hunting this land, but I've yet to have one stolen! I put my cams deeper in than most guys are willing to hike, but somebody always seems to wander through. I guess I just encountered the honest ones, and that's refreshing.

I like to think that If you go in far enough, you will run into guys who are like you. People who put a lot of effort in and don't want their stuff stolen either. Obviously that isn't always how it works, but that's wishful thinking for ya.

Wish I were so lucky. Had a Muddy stand stolen off public land that was cable locked to the tree!

I had a brand new trailcam stolen last year, which was the first one I have ever owned. Definitely learned the hard way that hiding them is the way to go.

I had a summit viper stolen last year, left it while I dragged out a deer and was gone when I came back for it

Don't be mislead by my OP, I've been on the other end as well. I had a LW sit and climb stolen that was cable locked on Private land!! I just thought it was ironic that I haven't had a cam stolen on Public land, YET.

I had a pic of a guy last year staring at my cam and then another pic of him up close to my camera and he looks like he is trying to get it off the tree. Luckily I had it cabled lock.

I'm in far enough on public land that I never lock my cams and never had one stolen. I also get them out by the end of archery. I wouldn't leave them through gun season.

Heck I hunt private land. With some farms have fences and gates to get in and people cut holes in the fence and steal cameras. Heck I even had some one trespass and cut firewood one year.

Couple of years ago we had folks cutting bolts and stealing 10' gates off our lease.

Hung it in April went to swap cards and batteries Friday and found that. Never dreamed someone would found that cam. Believe caught someone makin some good corn liquor and they jacked my cam so didn't have the evidence lol. And this is around 1.2 deep on public.

I've had people take my game camera on Private land.

Funny thing is, they took the camera home without shutting it off. Then they decided to have a change of heart and brought it back.

I had photos of all of their faces, their house, their living room, bedroom... Never found out who they were but I had a good laugh about it with my hunting buddy. We were both glad it wasn't aimed at the bed over night!

The only cams I ever had stolen were taken on private land. Run my few cams only on public land now. No problems so far...

I read an article about somebody wiring explosives to there camera box so when somebody went to steal it BOOM!!! Obviously not advisable but if more thiefs were concerned about losing an arm the next time they ripped off a trail cam we would have a lot less cases of stolen cams

I haven't had one taken yet but I only use cheap cams in case. I don't lock them but I do hang them 10'-12' up on public land. My spendy cams are private and locked up.

I haven't had any cameras stolen (yet), thank goodness. But I did have my lone wolf hang-on stolen 2 years back. That was a sad day. Geared up and left my house at 3am to drive an hour into my spot. Hiked up another mile at least, get to my tree...gone! Needless to say, I stopped hunting that area.

I have set alot of cameras for recon...one thing i have discovered is that most people arent looking for cameras specifically... especially above their eye level! Just saying!
