I just went on a trip to Wisconsin this past weekend for my first ever Wisconsin public land hunt. It was a 4 day weekend trip and I did all my scouting from a computer in Minnesota. I decided to hunt the southern part of Barron county, because it was a short drive and looked to have a high deer population. I had a blast on the hunt and was successful in getting a 1.5 year old 9 point buck. I would have passed on the buck back in Minnesota, but with only having 4 days to get it done in Wisconsin I decided to take the shot. Plus one of the reasons for going to Wisconsin was to get some meat in the freezer. I can only shoot 1 deer in my area of Minnesota. I feel kind of bad for local hunters that might pass on this deer because it was only a 1.5 year old and had really good genetics. What would you guys think if some out of state guy came and hunted your area for a few days and took a young buck with great potential out of the heard?
Well done you sad it, meat in the freezer...I is the way I look at it A young one is better then nothing
I think its great! Too many people worry about what the next guy is going to shoot. I'm glad you had a great time. Congrats!
Congrats on a nice buck!! If you are happy and he is a trophy to you then it doesn't matter what we think!! Enjoy a successful hunt! Here in Jersey where I live it is tough to come by a buck that is older than 2.5 - 3 years old because we have so many deer gangs that put on drives in December and they shoot everything!!!
Congrats. I would of done the same. Public land is like that if you don't shoot it someone else will. Fill the freezer. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
Personally, I would rather they just shot a doe if they were interested in meat. That being said, you paid for a tag and had a successful hunt so all is good. Nice job on scouting it out before you ever got there.
It happens to me every year on private land. We have guys from Canada, South Carolina, Florida, Indiana as well as the guys from ky come in with a brown and down mentality. Nothing to be upset about, their tags and their deer, farmer wants them killed so they kill them. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
This! congrats on the buck and don't worry what others think. You're happy, right? That's all that matters.
it's public ground which means if it walks out of cover in gun season it hits the ground before it does anything else. beautiful deer would have taken it.
Good job! I took a 7 pt on public this year. Very happy with him. Didnt even get to shoot there last year. Congrats sent from old school can and string
Nicely done, and I gladly accept your filthy Viking money. :p out of state hunters are WELCOME in WI.
