Well Fri. & Sat. I tried my luck on public land with my buddy Anthony "MNKK" on here. Fri. didn't pan out very well...heard one gobbler far off through the rain but that was about it. Sat. we went to a different access point and set up. We heard a lot of hens but nothing showed up. So we moved to a different field. We sat and sat some more. Then about 100 yards off I see the feathered foe. We had 2 hens and 1 jake decoy set up. So Anthony calls a little and it starts to move in and close the distance. I try to glass with my $6 binos...lol. And I don't see a beard. So I assume it was a hen. All the while the turkey is closing the distance. It gets about 50 or 40 yards out and beds down...lol...for an hour. So we are sitting in the brush with the Thermacell cranking just waiting. There was brush where it was bedded so we could'nt really get a good look. It finally heads our way and as soon as we see the red head and the faint patch of a beard he sees us...or something that bothers him. I no longer had a shot so it was up to Anthony...he draws...shoots...and the arrow flies right past the tail feathers. So there was good and bad that day. Good that we had a bird come in on our cheapo foam decoys and bad that we didn't take him home. Just goes to show that the most unlikely place to hunt turns out to be a great spot. I'm going out tomorrow to the same spot with my blind to see if the Jake wants to go home with me!! Good luck everyone!!:D

Not too much gobbling over here...just a little. I went back to the same spot this morning. Got out there nice and early...almost froze. Then a few hours later a seed truck pulls out into the field I'm hunting and starts spreading seed and fertilizer...lol!!! I was pissed...gotta love public land. I just want to meet the guy who gave the okay to seed and fertilize food plots in the middle of Turkey Season.
