This thread is stemming off of the DIY lifeline thread. I bought a lifeline brand new last year and after being in the woods for only 2 weeks I had a squirrel or something chew up just the prussic knot rope, not the actual lifeline rope. Rather than buying a whole new lifeline I was wanting to just replace the prussic rope knot on it. Do you know what type of rope I should buy for it and where I could find it? I do not know the specifications of the prussic knots that come on the lifelines in the stores. My main concern is having solid rope that would hold up if I was to have a fall. Thanks for your help.

Go to REI or ****s and see if they have climbing rope but not a lot of people sell just 8' or so of rope. Craig's list and look for climbing rope but for the specs you can google what u need out if it and find the diamiter or sertant streach

Just buy an inexpensive rope grab. This is not a knock against rope or the prussic knot method but for relatively small amount you can get a rope grab that will likely last forever and is easier to use. I work in a field where we use just about every kind of fall protection gear you can think of: harnesses, lifelines, srl's, and pretty much any system available we've seen or used. Hardly anyone is using prussic knots/ropes anymore in my field. Again not a knock I am very aware of the effectiveness of the prussic knot system I just find it outdated.
