My daughter called me at 3:20 pm yesterday afternoon. The first words out of her mouth after I said "Hello" were "Two plus / two plus / two!" She's in the Navy and for the past two years she's been at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California learning Mandarin Chinese. Not only is it one of the most difficult languages to learn, but in order to pass the course you have to be fluent in the language. She was calling me to tell me that she had passed her Defense Language Proficiency Test which is the final exam for the course. A score of 2+ essentially means "advanced" and she got the 2+ in both speaking and listening. I'm still not quite sure what the last "2" indicates. Anyway, after two years of very intensive training and high stress, it's over and she passed. I'll be flying to Monterey on Wednesday to attend her graduation ceremony on Thursday. It's a big day for her and I wouldn't miss it.
That is all kinds of awesome man. You should indeed be proud. Nothing better in life than watching your children enjoy success. Beats anything!
A very awesome success. I'm glad you will be able to be there to watch her at graduation for it! I'm sure that skill can take her far.
Congrats to her. I had a friend who was learning it and it was giving him some serious fits. And he breezed through Spanish and German.
Congrats, and I may be wrong but I think the last number represents the ability to read the language.
I'm on the phone with her right now. The first 2+ is listening. The 2nd 2+ is reading. The 2 is speaking, which is graded on a different scale. She did very well.
