My daughter has decided to do a 9 month mission trip next year instead of going to college. While I'm not thrilled at the thought of her being away for 9 months, I can't help but be proud of her passion for spreading God's word. Please take a moment and visit her page. If you can help at all, every little bit will help. Here is the link to her page. Sydney Denton's World Race Gap Year by Sydney Denton - GoFundMe Thanks, and God bless.
I know how it is to see your little girl go off, I cried like a baby when I dropped my daughter off at college she did fine it is harder on the parents. Trust that you raised her well and be happy when she reflects your values. You did well in raising her that she has strong values and motivation to serve.
That's awesome. Where is she off to? When my daughter did her missions trip it was rough on mom & dad!!! I think we watched the airline app on keeping track of the plane till it landed in Ireland. Sure was proud of her though & was glad when she came back!!!
Saying good bye is tough. Both of my boys served missions for our church, one in Brazil, the other in Argentina. Hard on mom and dad but incredible for them.
This will be a big sacrifice for her. Most 18 year olds spend their first year out of high school having fun at college. She's used to being pampered. Other than when they are travelling, they will sleep in tents. She will have to carry everything she needs in a pack. She's already started training for the physical demands.
She's been to S. Africa 5 times, but those are 10 day trips. She's also done several week long trips here in the states. This is a whole new ball game. We will get to go visit her around Christmas while she is in the Phillipines.
Service to others is the essence of being Christian. I admire her dedication and desire to help others. It shows the type of examples and guidance that she has had growing up. Makes me have some faith in the generation growing up now, we hear so many bad stories of the youth of today and how disrespectful they may be, it is great to hear good positive things happening with our youth today. Thanks for sharing, made my day.
Best of luck to your baby girl. I'm sure it's super hard for you and your wife but it will be the time of her life.
Thank you! She has made being the father of a beautiful young lady much easier than it could have been. We have been blessed.
It has been a little over 4 weeks now. She's in Albania. Things are going well, but man I miss her..... My wife is doing much better than I thought. Facetime/skype helps a lot. She's an amazing young lady, with a heart for God and serving that is incredible. She's blogging pretty regularly, and her posts are fantastic, and so insightful.
