Just spent the last two days with my 8 year old son in a Virginia Hunter Education/Safety course hosted by the Quantico Rod and Gun club - required for kids 12 and older and adults to get a license in VA. It was 0800 - 1700 yesterday and 0800-1030 or so today - long day for an 8 year old (and his jet lagged out dad also...). Not only did he manage to pay attention for most/all of yesterday - he scored a 90 on the 50 question final today! I am so proud of my little hunting buddy I could bust! The instructors thought it was great, they were all grins and smiles that he passed and did so well. Now we need to figure out if he will be ready to hunt youth day in Sept - will is there, arm strength for the crossbow we have isn't quite there...push ups and practice are on the menu for the rest of the summer.
Thats awesome, Congrats. I was a member of Quantico Rod and Gun Club back in 1974! Best of luck to you both this season.
Sean, that is fantastic! I could barely sit still in that two day class when I was 17! -hahahaha. Your hunting season just got that much better. What a feeling it is going to be when you and your son march off into the woods before the sun comes up.
