Hey all. Just thought I'd share a moment with you guys. I was blessed to watch as my son got his first buck ever with a bow last night. His name is Justin and he's 9 years old. He's been honing his archery skills for the last couple years before Dad deemed he was ready to head to the woods with his own bow instead of just watching me hunt. We've been hitting the woods as often as possible together and he's absolutely hooked on bowhunting. He loves to watch nature in the undisturbed state that only a bowhunter can appreciate. Anyway, we got out late last night. I told him we were pushing it as the deer would likely already be on the move with only a little over an hour of daylight left. We quickly and quietly made our way down the draw to our stand. We hadn't even been in the tree but a couple minutes when I was getting everything situated in place, I looked over my shoulder and spotted this buck heading toward our stand. As I was handing Justin his bow, the buck made out my figure up in the tree and both of us were forced to stand motionless for a good 3 or 4 minutes before the buck settled down and slowly turned to head back the way he came. Justin got his bow into position and quickly but smoothly settled the pin on the buck's vitals and let loose his ICS Hunter Junior arrow tipped with an 85 grain Magnus Stinger broadhead. Great hit, buck went down 30 yards away. I'll have to say that sitting up in the tree with him and watching him stay calm and make that shot brought on more excitement and emotion than any deer I've ever harvested myself. A moment I'll never forget.
Way to go little man!!! can't wait until my daughter is able to go out in the woods with me I got a long wait however she's only 15 months lol
Thanks for all the kind words guys. Justin read the thread a little while ago and couldn't believe how nice all the folks were that he didn't even know! I told him it's a brotherhood of hunters. As hunters, we all look out for one another and share in each others successes and support each other in times of distress. I think he understood after I explained that these are guys just like you and me that long to sit in a tree for hours on end. Once again, great forum.
