What do you tell the families that lost loved ones in past years because they would not negotiate?

Why would the Taliban keep him alive for this long? How many other prisoners do they have? How many have they executed? It just doesn't make sense for them to keep him like this, it's not their MO. To me, it's because he acknowledged to them that he was sympathetic to their cause and was willing to give information.

The president is really out over his skies on this one. With the information that had already been gathered on this situation, there was absolutely no reason to exchange any, let alone 5 high ranking Taliban for a deserter at the least, and possibly a traitor. Your telling me that we couldn't have just went in and got him if we wanted to? Instead, he went over congress because he feels he's above the law. Sending a loud and clear message to the rest of the world that he is quite possibly the weakest president we have ever had, one that is willing to negotiate with terrorist, one that is willing to put American at risk for no gain. He just threw any leverage we would have in the future right out the window. But hey, he talks really good(when reading from a teleprompter) so he must be a great president.

He was a pow who was held in Pakistan probably not near much. I doubt he has much information. He wasn't surrounded by top terrorists, it was lowly guards who defected once and then got killed when his escape was unsuccessful.

You can't seriously believe they felt like they could use a defecting soldier as a bargain chip. America has always had a stance that we do not negotiate with terrorist. No exceptions. There's no way they could have known that our spineless president would be willing to deal with them. Let's not forget, these are terrorists, not a recognized government. There's a huge difference, but apparently BO doesn't get it.

Yeah. I don't know myself but just don't want to call one of our solders a deserter with out 110% proof.

The only reason that I believe he is is the reports for the people in his unit. And, before deploying, it was brought up in our SERE brief that he deserted, and that was 3 years ago. I don't think it ever reached the media because that would be a huge hit to the morale of the guys and girls getting sent over to fight.

Could he have had a chip implanted in the guy and as long as We were chasing after him they would keep moving him to all their best hiding places?

Our military technology never ceases to just amaze me and now with what we use ourselves on a daily basis I can only imagine what they have now.

Yes I can. We've paid money or other things for people before, we'll do it again. They understand the American people better than we do. Theyre smart enough to know that he could be used as a bargaining chip. No doubt in my mind about that.

Of course, but the news on Washington Post states that SF knew where he was located many times along with the amount of guards. Either it was a chip or it was their intel, either way it didnt matter.

This whole 'swap' is so jacked up, there is no upside for BO (other than taking our minds of all the other issues he is battling). How is this 'better' than dealing with the VA scandal? It is not! I am curious who initiated this transaction? Seriously, how would this go down, "Mr. President, we think we can exchange 5 of the Taliban's most notorious murderers for a deserter." Who council-ed him on this? Did he know of the desertion issues before approving this? This is such a straight forward and easy non sequitur that the only conclusions one can derive from this are ALL bad. I don't get it... In my mind here are the only conclusions:
-BO is such a bumbling idiot, so out of touch with reality he thinks this to be truly a good thing.
-BO is such a bumbling idiot, he truly believes illegally swapping a deserter for 5 terrorists is 'better' bad press than what he is currently experiencing
-BO is such a bumbling idiot, that he is unaware of the deals his staff is working out for him, only finding out the issues after the fact...
-There are plans in the works we are unaware of that make this swap important.

Given Fast 'n' Furious, I am not comforted by any of this.

Given all that, at least one thing is certain. He's a bumbling idiot!

I agree totally, but it is going to backfire on them. The guy should be in Leavenworth. What I find strange is that he "Supposedly" forgot how to speak English and learned their language. Really? He has been speaking English all his life, you can never for get that. Also, from my understanding, his Dad had not spoken to him in over 5 years. Why is it that his Dad looks like a muslim, acts like one and supports the muslim lifestyle. I smell a rat. Don't be surprised if Bergdahl is found dead of an "apparent suicide."

This is certainly the strangest thing in bo's presidency. I think about it and feel 'going down the rabbit hole' as a visceral experience.

He deserted his post which put everyone in danger. Men were killed trying to find his sorry rear end. The prisoner swap is terrible and everyone involved in it should be investigated, including our terrible President.
