Ive been reading on here everybody loving this call but it never realy works for me how often do you all bleat or whats ur alls way of using it
I have one. I use it the get a deer's attention. Then I shut up and let them get curious and come over.
Like all products... it works well sometimes and not-so-well at other times. I've used one many times and always have it with me whenever I hunt for deer. I don't use it alone. I carry rattling antlers from a buck I shot years ago, the can, a fawn bleat, and a grunt tube. You never know what call a deer will respond to - so IMHO it's better to have a variety with you. Then again... silence is golden!
I like to combine the Can and a grunt call together, I use the can in a series of 2-3 times in a 4-5 minute time frame then grunt a couple times after it. That seems to work best for me when just calling. If I can see the deer i will bleat 1 or 2 times that usually gets them looking
I use it a lot during gun season (just got back into archery last season, and late in the season at that.) I usually use it when I can hear or only partially see a deer due to brush or what have you. I've had many young bucks come ambling up for a closer look, but never had a mature buck check it out. I am thinking it might be more successful pre- or early rut, especially combined w/ a grunt as others have mentioned.
I use it a lot and swear it works. When I say that, I mean it works better than all my other calls. Success rate, Id say maybe 20%. I don't call often. I hate blind calling and rarely do that. I usually call when I feel I have nothing else to lose. I may be missing out by not calling more but I don't like to push it. There has been times when a buck is 80 yards or so out there and he's not heading my way, I have been able to coax him in with the can. It seems to spark some curiosity no matter what time of year I use it. The thing I like about it is I have never really had an adverse reaction to it. Grunting and rattling I've sent deer the other way pretty quickly. The can seems to either get them curious or they just keep on doing what they were.
I have one and have never seen any huge results....once in a while they will look interested but usually just go back to whatevrr they were doing....id rather have my grunt tube as ive seen way more reaction to that Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I always use it the week before the rut starts to kick in. Some of the does will start to come into heat a little earlier than others. It will get bucks that are starting to "feel it" roused up and come running.
I have killed two nice bucks that in no way were coming in to my setup without it, during the rut no way would i leave home without it.
Called in a few young bucks and several coyotes with them, I've used them sparingly usually 2 to 3 bleats every 45 minutes to an hour. I have tried them on deer I didn't intend to shoot to see their reaction when they hear it. Have seen young bucks move in closer and had does do everything from continue what they were doing to run away.
I have never had any success with it but I still carry one and use it fairly regularly during the rut.
its all about how you use it (right guys). but seriously. the best time to use it is early rut when bucks are getting all horned up and stupid. Since the rut is all about bucks looking for a doe, this call is good for getting them curious. When you spot a buck at a distance, or know there is usually action in the area at that time, quickly burst off a couple bleats with the can by turning the can over and quickly turning it back after a it bleats for a second (maybe 2 seconds). do this a couple times when you know a buck isnt looking in your direction. Only give a burst of bleats every 30 to 45 mins minimum. If you let the can run the entire bleat, you'll never call one in. the whole idea of the can is to simulate a doe letting a buck know shes available and ready. cruise around on youtube for videos on how to use different calls. This guy isnt the most exciting person to watch, but he does a good job of explaining how to use the can and when to use it. He has some other good videos posted too. hope this helps
I plan on trying the can this season. I have also had good success with the Fawn bleat. I was able to get a doe in range on 2 seperate occasions in which they would have otherwise been about 80-100 yards out. They turned and came straight at me.
