I've purchased a Rival for hunting this year. I went with the Rival, because I also do 3D shoots and a little bit of indoor. I'm also 6'2", so I prefer a longer A2A bow for stability. My preferred draw weight is normally 63-65lbs. My draw length is 30". I'm shooting Maxima 350 reds with a 100gr tip, cut at 30". The Rival IBO's at 340. So yesterday while I was at my local archery store I decided to crank it up to 70lbs, just to see what she does and chrono my bow. *My Rival is set at 80% letoff, but even set at 60%, it shouldn't make that much difference* I'm still only getting 299fps and the draw is heavy for me. The Rival has such a long valley, I don't think I'll manage 70lbs in my blind come Turkey season, but I feel that extra speed gives me some reach before detection. I planned on Hunting South Africa Next year with this bow, but now I have my doubts. I'm born in SA and have hunted plenty of game there, bow and otherwise. Impala, Kudu and some others are known for jumping the string and this is where speed comes in. Don't get me wrong, this bow is deadly accurate and a great performer at 63-65lbs, very smooth. As soon as you max out though, its a tough draw with little return for your investment. I hate to say it, but I shot a Spyder carbon Turbo yesterday, and I was shooting in the 220's comfortably with my same arrow, draw (length) and it was set at 62lbs with a whisker biscuit on it (normally stealing about 3-4fps). I'm debating a sale on this bow (which I would hate to do) in preparation for my South Africa hunt. What's your thoughts?
I have a 2014 carbon spyder turbo and don't have a bad thing to say about it I shot one of last years prime bows, and even set at my draw length it was wanting to fold me up. I don't know if it was tuned properly or what, but I did not enjoy it.
I had a defy for a short time, it had no valley at all , nor did any of the 2014 I messed with. It's claimed that there was improvement made in that regard in 15 . I won't even consider them until they do away with DLS cams and quite their bull crap advertising.
The PCXL cams don't bother me in the least to be quite honest and neither does the bow overall. I'm just a little disappointed in the speed and don't want to lighten my arrows to achieve that.
As I mentioned above Jimmy, I'm only getting 299 out of her. My arrow is slightly heavier than 400, but that shouldn't subtract 30fps. I'm realistic regarding hunting situations and I'm not asking for a 330 or 340 fps bow, but 310-315fps would be nice. Without ripping my shoulder out of socket of course!
It's only 16 FPS short. And I would bet that it's due to the bow being out of tune. My impact is perfectly tuned, timed and set to factory specs and it's hitting IBO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
16fps might be the difference between a hit or a miss in SA. I'll take it to my archery shop on Sunday and have them take a look at the tuning, thanks for everyones help and input.
16 fps might make a difference but it will be minuscule. The difference might be a couple inches at most. And if you have a clean miss two inches higher is not a great shot at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hate bows that I can't get their Published numbers out of within reason. That said there are way to many variables left out of this discussion to conclude that is the case with this bow.
