uughh. I finally received the call back from a town selectman. unfortunately my "old" access spot is private property. I have two options. knock on the door of the guy who owns the property, where I'm sure he posted it for a reason (hunters being slobs disrespectful) or add an extra mile to my walk in....(thinking about the walkout/dragout). It's supposed to be rainy and crappy all weekend so i think i'll take a ride down there saturday afternoon and knock on the door, worst he can say is no. it's going to be such a hard sell and i've never knocked on a door before, but i want to be in those woods so bad, so many memories. hunting anywhere else seems wrong. If i'm told no, then i will check out the other access area, and maybe take the walk and stash my climber near my hunting spot (not worried about anyone finding it.)
Good luck! Hope it works out! I was planning to take my 11 yr old daughter out on opening day & sit in the ground blind until today..... I get a call from her school that she rolled her ankle badly. After a couple hours at the doctor we find out she broke the outside bone in her foot. I wait & go out Sunday morning with my 8yr old daughter.
Ouch!!! Sorry to hear, that must be so painful! I've only rolled my ankle a few times and it dropped me to the ground. Hope she heals up quick!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hopes she gets better and that sucks swamp just real friendly when you talk to the person maybe offer them something
Has anyone ever used the Tinks b-tech scent killer before I bought a few bottles but I really like is the scent away stuff been using for years now
No I haven't use that brand. I'm sure they're all pretty much the same thing. I'm using a big bottle of sent blocker I bought last year on clearance. I usually use Scent away as well. Getting my game plan squared away for this weekend. Unfortunately there won't be any hunting. The landowner who I need to do the knock and talk with, owns a small restaurant in the town. I was thinking of maybe going there tomorrow morning for breakfast, then seeing if I could talk to him there. Or late tomorrow afternoon and go to his house, not too sure yet. I'm preparing for the worst. I'm going to have my game cart, and climber with me In case he says no. That way I can make the long hike in with the game cart and the Tree stand, and stash them in my usual hiding spot. I'm not worried about them getting stolen. I pretty much know for a fact I'm gonna be the only one in there that deep. I think I'm going to gamble a little bit, and set up one of the magnums scrape dripper's over one of the scrapes. It's supposed to be raining tomorrow and all weekend so I figure now will be my best chance. Next Wednesday or Saturday will be my first day hunting there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good luck to who is going out on the morning I won't be able to gotta work but Sunday morning it's on be safe out there
Went out this morning and didn't see a thing I have 2000 pics of a alone doe but no sign of her today
I went out with my 11yr old with the broken foot, she really wanted to go so I couldn't say no. We didn't see any deer, it was warm, no wind & just too quite in the woods. At 8:30 we had a group of 6 turkey's come in & I took one at 19yds. My daughter loved seeing that & now she wants to start practicing so she can hunt next fall!
That's great she so enthusiastic and wants to go! And to bag a turkey makes it so much better! Congrats on the bird. My knock and talk at the restaurant didn't go well, the guy didn't even want to talk to me. The waitress said he was cooking in the back and was too busy after she went back and talk to him. There was only two other people in the restaurant and they were already eating LOL!! Not the end of the world I had prepared myself for the worst, Went to my legal access site, Mark the trail going in with the GPS and the reflective thumbtacks. Went back to my car grabbed my dear cart, and my climber and made a mile and a half walk to my stand. Stashed the game cart deep in a patch of Mountain Laurel, as well as my stand. I hung the scrape dripper Over his fresh scrape. It was raining the whole time so I should be all set. I actually might go out there on Wednesday for my first sit. I'll do an afternoon hunt, so I can climb that tree for the first time in the light so I know what notches to have my climber cables set at. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well swamp there is only one thing left to do. And that is call the health department and get his restaurant closed down haha
LMAO!!!!!!!!! Good idea! When I go out Wednesday, but I take a quick spin by his house and see if he's there. I'm not giving up until I get a definitive "NO" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I checked my plots yesterday... we have had zero rain. When I planted it was supposed to rain for the next three days, but that didn't happen. I have very little germination. It has me a little worried, but I am going to swing by the lease on the way to Ohio at the end of the month and top seed some oats, should be cool enough but then that they will do fine.
So who is heading out this weekend? I'll be heading out to public land on Saturday for an all day hunt. I'm also heading out Monday Columbus Day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here's my plotted gps map Not as far as I thought, but still... Didn't realize I just posted my stand location LOL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
