Got out yesterday for some preseason local scouting in the afternoon. Didn't expect to bump any birds just looking for tracks, scrapes, poop, feathers. Ended up walking up on a tom with a big body just 250 yards from my house, was from 45 to 55 yards ahead of me facing away. Only got a glance of the beard looked maybe 6 to 8" long but the body size said bigger. Lots of acorns still on the ground but are black and lots are only hulls. I hope this guy stays around for the next 3 weeks at least. I got a couple of other places to check out yet but sure would nice to have one right close to home.
