I am still a novice & just my 2nd season of spot & stalk & looking for first buck. A friend who manages a ranch near Abilene, TX lets me hunt for free so I have some limitations. What I put on the ground could be eaten by pigs and cattle. The area I hunt has a lot of hogs, some deer, and occasional cow. A friend from AR, who still hunts there, swears by Trophy Rock Mineral Rock from Cabellas & I left one while out there Turkey hunting this spring, but hogs & possibly cows have access to it too. They don't have the hog problem in AR that we do in TX & I forgot to add that in my equation. Anyone in TX use something like a mineral rock & feel it has good results despite hogs? My buddy said try Bag a Buck because you can hang it from a tree. At this point I may be able to hang one in mid Sept, but may only get to hang it when I hunt in Oct & hope it works for rut hunt in Nov. Would 2 weeks be enough time or do I need to get out mid Sept? Also, anyone use Bag a Buck? Or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Dr. Grant Woods I believe is where I saw it, showed how to alter a trophy rock to place it on a steel T post. We've used it to great success on the part of our ranch that has wild hogs on it. I think it was on Growingdeertv.
