Yeah if I lived where you do it wouldn't even have crossed my mind....I think one way or another I will have a 4x4....just whether I get a nice commuter and cheap 4x4 or the other way around.

Do the math on having two vehicles when it comes to maintenance, insurance, etc. When we bought my wife a new ride earlier this year, I was going to keep her old Subaru to keep miles off my truck and get better gas mileage. When I sat down and did the math on maintenance, insurance, registration, etc.......spread over a 2 year period, it didn't make sense at all for me to keep her old ride.

This. Maintenance and upkeep on two can get expensive. I'd rather have one that will do it all.

No doubt. I would pull minimum insurance legal and would only fix things affecting drive-ability, but yeah that definitely will have to be factored in....if I go one, I may just have to do an SUV or small truck because I have to drive over 50-100 miles some times for work occasionally and a full size truck with terrible mileage just isn't practical.

I haven't read the whole thread, and I'm sure this has been said, but iv driven 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive trucks in my life. I have never regretted having 4 wheel drive, but have wished for it when all I had was 2.
They will be a bit more expensive, and a bit lower gas mileage a lot of the time, but if it allows me to get where I'm going, and to be safer on slick roads, for me it's a no brainer
