Having the hobby farm we have to have a pick up. Having a 1/2 mile driveway in Minnesota 4x4 is must have. My wife has a AWD crossover. Never have regretted having 4WD.
Ty I only need 4 WD 10 -15 times a year but when I need it, it is invaluable. Go 4 WD, you wont regret it.
I bet it can be difficult to find a 2wd pick up, at best the selection has to be small. Then again $54,000 for a new silverado?
Might as well buy a prius wagon. One of our vehicles is a 2wd Ford f250. Bought it as a favor. Out here I would practically have to give it away. Nobody wants a 2wd truck. I don't want one either.
You will never regret having 4x4. You will get the added cost back when you sell. All of it. You will have times that you do regret not having 4x4.
Appreciate the thoughts fellas....was hoping for someone to come on and say I had 4x4 went to RWD and didn't notice at all.....dream world I know :D
I've learned this first hand with my own trucks over the years...idiots always lock in than and say bye bye :D
There's nothing wrong with buying a 4x4 simply because you WANT it. Yes, logic and reason my say that it isn't needed or worth the extra price but if you can afford it or are happy with an older model to get it, then go for the 4x4.
I owned a 2wd F-150 back years ago, my second vehicle. It was a good truck but after that I vowed to never again own a 2wd. It would get stuck on wet grass. Stop being and buy a 4x4, I can't see you regretting having 4wd but I can see you regretting not having it. I can't even see it as a serious debate...people that never get off blacktop can get by with 2wd, hell, our gravel roads get bad enough at times to justify 4wd. There's a certain amount of logic to the concept of buying an older 4wd just to have the 4wd.
That's what I'm probably leaning towards. Get an SUV with AWD or a commuter car...and than work on finding on old but mechanical sound 4x4...good to have for hunting, and any days we get the snow we get each year.
Our of all the trucks I've owned. One was a 2wd.....never again. I love my Toyotas.... Lol. My Tacoma goes like a tank. I think if you get a 4x4 you will be more happy....lol. Sent from my XT830C
Boot...Tacomas are on my short list....If I go truck and 4x4 it will be a Tacoma/Colorado/Frontier/Canyon most likely...with Dakotas consider if price is right...not a Ranger fan as they just feel way too tiny for my liking. You drive any of the other mid-size trucks before settling on the Tacoma?
I had a Ext. Cab S-10 ZR2 once....it was a good truck, but wasn't a Toyota. It had the 4.3L V-6 in it. Did very well, just didn't go like the Tacomas did. I've owned every brand out there. I've had the best luck with Toyota and GM. I've had horrible luck with Ford and Dodge. Maybe it was just my Bad luck...lol. I haven't bought a brand new truck in years. I prefer used ones like the Green Tacoma I just bought, cause I always scratch them up and my feeling don't get hurt as much....lol. My hunting buddy has a Nissan Frontier. It's a nice truck. A 4wd Ranger could make a bad@*$ hunting truck. As the owner of a few F-250 crews, big isn't such a great trait to have in a hunting vehicle. Just depends on what pops into your mind when you think of a ranger 4wd. This...a real 4wd: Or this...not so much:
I don't want to admit how many times I've gotten stuck on wet grass back in the day trying to duck hunt with a 2wd..
I simply will not own a truck that doesn't have 4x4. But around my town you can't drive down about 50% of the roads after even just a .5" of rain with out it.
