Prayers sent out to the 19 firefighters that lost their lives in Arizona and their families. Even though neither the governor nor the president has authorized it, I have lowered the flag in my front yard to half staff and would ask that others did the same to show support for these brave men.

I don't understand why you felt the need to include this in an otherwise solid post.

I don't understand why you feel the need to question it. To lower the flag to half staff, it is supposed to be authorized by the governor of the state or the potus. Neither has done so, but I took it upon myself to do it anyway and would say others should do so also.

It truly is tragic. My Dad has been a firefighter for 30+ years. Growing up, there was always that thought that he might not come out of a fire. I can't imagine the fear and agony these men must have experienced in their last moments. My thoughts for their families.

Sad day for sure when people sacrifice their lives in the service of others.

Am I the only one that questions the wisdom of putting the lives of these people in danger to start with. I was in this area in May it is like a dry jungle of thick pine and brush with temperatures of 100 degrees every day. There no way anyones going to put this fire out, all of the residents have been evacuated, let it burn it self out or at least fight it where it is safe to do so.

I would certainly question the leadership that led to this tragic situation.
