Well after i got done working yesterday , i decided to shoot the bow a bit. That decision was a BAD one. My Bear thumb release shattered in my hand and about 3/4 draw sending the pieces and my fist into my eyeball. I thought my bow blew up in my face , but i couldnt tell. My left eye was took the brunt of the blow, it was full of blood and my right was watering so bad "if youve ever been punched you know what im talkin about". I pretty much dropped my bow from waist height to the concrete floor . Once i had a minute to calm down i walked outside to my truck to look in the mirrors, it was ugly my eye was full of blood. Seeing as i was still at the shop seperate location from the house i had to call the wife and have her come get me and take me to an optometrist. Notice my arrow in the hand cleaner dispenser on the right. The optometrist told me the bad news that he wasnt qualified to handle the trauma my eye had taken, and that i had bleeding on my optic stem and i'd have to go to a specialist today. So im sitting here now waiting to leave and drive 50 miles. More than likely they will have to go behind my eye and "vacumm" out the bleeding area, which he says is no walk in the park. GREAT :computer: I have about 20 percent of my sight in my left eye right now. lets hope thats not for good. Well see here in about 3 hours. Talk about going 180 fast. Good afternoon of shooting to **** :computer: Oh yeah and to make it better i looked my bow over this morning and saw this damage. I wont type the expletives that came out of my mouth. JUST ANOTHER REMINDER - NEVER HURTS TO LOOK EVERYTHING OVER (EVEN YOUR RELEASE) I have a feeling i would have noticed some kind of crack or some tell tale sign had i done this.
Wow, that's terrible!! My guess Is that your eye Is going to be fine as long as no parts of your release are In there. I wish you the best of luck at your appointment.
prayers sent, Your eyes is one(if not THE) of the most important thing you have... Especially in our lifestyles(hunting, shooting, etc)
Prayers send. Don't worry about that damage to your bow, they make new cams, but not sure they make new eyes. I hope all turns out well. Please keep up posted with updates. Scary stuff!!!!
Yikes! Best of luck and a prayer out to you for a fast and full recovery! (I guess I'll be sure to wear my glasses when I shoot)
Wow, just goes to show that every time you draw the bow things can happen. Really hope that your eye is alright. I do understand how you feel about the bow. I am sure I would be saying the exact same thing but in reality who cares about it. It can be fixed or replaced. Keep us posted on your status.
WOW, Dave, sorry to hear this. Hopefully the damage is temporary, and that eye gets back to normal. Good thing about eyes is that they heal relatively quickly most of the time. Hopefully they can get you set up with whatever is needed to get you back in good order again. I'll put you on my list of people that the Good Lord needs to shed a little extra attention. I was just gonna PM you and see if you were interested in trying to shoot at the local shop that has the video archery range up there this weekend, but I suppose that is probably out of the question now. Good Luck with getting that straightened out and God Bless.
