I was working on my bow today and was just thinking what is the lowest amount of poundage you could use to kill a deer?
Check your state regs. If they don't have a limit, the least I've heard suggested is ~35 (most are higher), which probably isn't even a technical minimum possible. Shot placement, penetration, knowledge of the prey's vitals/kill zone, distance and ethics also come into play.
In Illinois I believe the lowest you can go is 40lbs. Mine is at 34 so I've decided to practice everyday so I can get up to 40 before the season starts.
I shot my doe last year with my bow at 35 pounds and was no problem. I am up to 45 now this year though.
Yeah 35 will do it but check with your state laws. 40 is good just to he on the safer side. I wouldn't shoot past 20 yards with the weight that low and make sure you are using good fixed blade broadheads.
Indiana is 35# I believe. But really it doesn't matter because it all about placement. If u can put 90-100# but can't make a good shot, what does it matter.
