    Howdy all!

I'm new to the archery scene and haven't ever owned a real bow in my life, so the whole thing is alien territory to me. I'm a Texan and primarily a firearm specialist, although I think I fired a bow once when I was in the boy scouts. I'm looking for some advice and maybe some tips to hone my skills because I have the opportunity to pick up a good compound bow soon, and I need some advice as to which I should pick; y options are as follows.

    First is a Bowtech Defender:

And the second is a Bowtech TomKat:

I'm a 6'4" right-handed person that weighs 375 pounds, with big hands and arms, and good upper body strength that can be improved if that helps the decision making. According to the owner, both have been well taken care of. I'm favoring the TomKat, but the Defender will supposedly have new strings by Tuesday or Wednesday.

I don't know what to choose; both have arrows and arrow heads. What is it I should be looking for specifically in either of these when I go to inspect them in person? Lastly, which bow is worth more than the other? I'm getting one or the other as part of a trade, and if the TomKat turns out to be worth less but better suited to me, I'd like to push for a re-stringing if possible.

Thanks guys and looking forward to posting with y'all in the future!

First off, Welcome to the site :tu:

The most important thing about purchasing a bow, is to make sure that the bow is the right size. I'd suggest going to an archery pro-shop, and get measured for a correct draw length. Your Draw length could very well be different than the bows this guy is trying to sell you, in which case, you'd have to order new parts to get it to fit you.

If they both fit you, shoot them. You'll likely find that one 'feels' better to you than the other.

    Hope this helps!
