Not in the slightest. Heck I'm hunting with some of the most modern equipment on the market. I just feel it's ridiculous to think someone's kill is any lesser because of the equipment they use. Especially when the equipment the person is arguing about is more traditional archery equipment then they use. Now on the baiting aspect I agree. But we're all hunters, we should all be happy the deer was harvested legally and ethically.
What is a natural food source? That can only be acorns, chestnuts, muscadine grapes or natural foliage. A FOOD PLOT IS BAIT TOO! It just takes longer for the bait to surface! Anyways, putting out things for deer to eat is legal here in NC. Like it is in many other states. People act like putting out things for deer to eat means they will AUTOMATICALLLY walk in on schedule and you can kill them. It IS NOT that easy. This thing with hunters judging other hunters and the way they hunt is STUPID! This is what anti-hunters want, divide and conquer! If you can't say something nice, why say anything? Kills me how people make a Smart @ss comment and say, I don't agree or to each his own and then say Nice Buck! Like that erases the crap they stated at first. If the arrow came from a compound, traditional bow or crossbow it still is an arrow being shot. You are still limited on the distance you can shoot. GEEZ!!
While everyone sits at their computer debating over a legal kill, this guy is enjoying his trophy and having some loins for dinner. Congrats to him. Everyone has their own idea of hunting.
What if he can't pull by a bow and the only way for him to hunt is with a cross bow? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lol, so well put. October 4th can't come soon enough. Just go hunt, people. Congrats to that hunter. What a great buck!
From reading the article, this man was a bowhunter in every way. He didn't just go out and shoot over a bait pile. He did his homework, he put in the time. He had over 600 pictures of this buck. He gets my congratulations. I am not a strong fan of crossbows (I believe there should be restrictions on them) and baiting isn't allowed here. But if everything was legal there - great for him. It's a beautiful buck and memories for sure. To be able to watch it for three days through binoculars and see the shedding process - that'd be an amazing experience alone.
Congrats to him on a beautiful deer. If everything was legal, who cares!?!?! everyone can agree to disagree... i'm happy for the guy!
Great buck and congrats. I have no problem whatsoever with his methods. Was legal, end of story. Crossbows have become much more popular recently and there are many people that are able to continue hunting that would not with other types of archery equipment due to health issues. Like others have stated, you still have to do the necessary things to get the deer close enough for a good shot opportunity and I don't have a problem with baiting because I see food plots and other forms of attractants the same way. What about doe urine drips, scrapes, and on and on and on.
I'm with Siman on this one. If you are using legal methods for your area good job. I don't hunt bait now, but I've shoot a bunch of deer over a bait pile in my lifetime and I don't see anything wrong with it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
The 600 pics were in one night as the deer fed on his pile of apples and corn LOL.......c'mon man. He also set his stand up the day the season started so not sure about the "put his time in claim" either. Congrats to the hunter as it seems he did everything legal. Baiting is beyond lame to me and anyone who thinks food plots are the same as a pile of corn and apples is crazy. I sit on over 5 acres of food plots on our land and have watched countless deer come out and eat until they are stuffed and then leave with me never even thinking of reaching for my bow because they have so much room to roam that getting them in bow range is still very difficult. Not to mention that BIG bucks don't just stroll out into the middle of a food plot and nibble on turnips at 11 am. They are super nocturnal and you are MUCH better off trying to ambush them sneaking around the plots looking for does then you are sitting on the plot itself. Buck hits a bait pile and it's dead........end of story. He also gagged the shot apparently as he took a terrible quartering to angle if he buried his bolt in the deer's off hip. The deer is waaaaaaaay better then the story unfortunately but that's no slight to the hunter.
well stated. my wifes grandpa says "any elk you talk with an arrow is a trophy" and I think it's the wisest hunting advise I've ever received.
What's the difference in hunting a planted food plot and a corn feeder? If its legal then by all means hunt it. I dont get why people will sit over a planted field that was put there with the sole purpose of attracting deer, and then degrade a deer someone killed over a pile of corn that was put there with the exact same purpose.
Do you hunt near a corn field, oak tree, soy bean field? Please explain the difference. Never mind I will not pay attention to elitist attitudes anyway.
My thoughts on baiting are that there are either deer in the area, or not. Let's be realistic. Is a deer going to go too far out of its way to feed on a little bit of bait that will run out fairly quickly? I hunt over bait when it's legal, it goes back and forth here in Michigan. But that doesn't mean I go throw up a stand and throw some corn out. I still put the hours in all year to find where they are traveling when I can catch them during legal hours. A bait pile is useless if there are no deer in the area. Cole
