You tell me who is being selfish The person denying someone freedom, or the person wanting to allow others the freedom of personal responsibility?
It all goes back to protecting the man from making bad decisions because society knows what is best for him.
Really? you want to create a legal limit for meth????? I recently heard the testimony of quite a few Teen Challenge guys at church. The one common theme in all of their testimonies is that pot was their gateway drug to a life that spiraled out of control. In the process, they destroyed other lives along the way. In any civilized society, there are plenty of things that need to be against the law (you can start with murder and go from there). So to make the argument that people are hypocrites if they want some things against the law and other things not against the law is without merit IMO. Where you draw that line is up to the individual. For me, all drug use is on the illegal side of the line. I think the point that someone made above that the last thing this country needs is more stoned people was a valid one. And to state that pot has no more effects than cigarettes (which I detest as well).....if you know a pothead, you know that is not true. Just my .02 guys. But I am still pretty shocked that someone would say that any amount of meth should be legal. that just blows my mind.
................. I know plenty of potheads. All of them are quite successful with their lives. Why do you care what someone puts in their body?
Gambling is legal, last time I checked and it has ruined lives, just like church and religion. So if it can ruin your life, we should make it illegal?
And if you read my first post, safety was my number one concern. To me the safety issues is why I think it should still be illegal. If pandora's box hadn't already been opened with alcohol, I would feel the same way. Many people just are not responsible enough to use it without abusing it.
For the betterment of society is not selfish, it's putting society ahead of one's self. Society would be better off without drugs, you cannot deny that.
Well hell, I guess we should compile a list of everything that has ruined someone's life and outlaw it. Allow me to start: - guns - sugary drinks - fattening food - tylenol - vehicles - bows - treestands - boats - pools - beaches - computers - money - bikes someone help me out
Sorry... But that's your opinion. I feel bad for those "old, closed minded folks" who look down on us "young, open minded folks".
The problem is that drugs are within society even when they are illegal. And the fact is that society would be better if drugs were legal. This has been proven.
Skywalker, I understand what's in your heart but the point is, people make bad decisions whether it's against the law or not. Take murder for example. Murder is illegal yet people still do it. If Hank the Hippie smokes weed alone in his bedroom, who is he hurting? Even if it was hurting himself, I had a nice juicy steak last night that I consumed myself, I didn't share a single bite, and I am betting isn't helping my arteries. Is there a difference? Should steak be made illegal? We can't look at the potential things someone could do after smoking weed because again that's another separate choice. The purpose of legalization isn't to say smoking weed is a good decision, it's simply to say that a decision (good or bad) that renders no bad results shouldn't be punished.
In some places, and not in others. I personally know of several people that pretty much lost everything due to gambling addictions.
No. The 'Merica that Afflicted and Sky want is for the government to protect you. And I'm sorry tacklebox, but those antlers look might pointy in your avi. Your local government will come by shortly to confiscate those from you so you do not harm yourself. It's for your own good.
^This! I cant see any reason that it would be worse or even as bad as alcohol. I think the only reason it isn't allowed is because of the tobacco companies. It eventually will become legal in all states.
You can call them closed minded if you want, but not not everyone thinks society is going in a positive direction.
