This season has been a little rougher than normal. Have had some success but have also had some frustrating hunts. While i was sitting in the stand the other day, my buddy kept texting me about him finding some good places to set up some mock scrapes. While I have used them before in early season, I have never thought of using one postrut/late season when the activity of mature bucks usually decreases to some extent. My question is how many people will set up a brand new mock scrape from scratch late in the season? I have high hopes for some late season stands that we just hung, I'm just questioning the effectiveness of a mock scrape at one of those sites.
I rarely (if ever) set up mock scrapes. Most of the bucks on properties I have hunted were very skittish around mock scrapes... especially in the later parts of the season.
