Ok since the early season and rut didn't work out to well for me this year, and in the past I haven't had to worry about this but this year I am going to hunt the late season really hard and try to kill a decent buck. So what are some late season and post rut strategies you guys use and one problem I have is there isn't much food for the deer no food plots ext. so what do you say I guys do .
Really is hard to give any help as I have no idea what your area is like but... Our bucks are still rutting a bit but the main rut is winding down. I have been seeing a lot of buck movement in the morning. I still see them scent checking sloughs and checking does. As the main rut winds down the buck well be feeding pretty heavy to gain back what they have lost rutting. Find out what they prefer to feed on and the trails they use to get to it in your area. If you know where the bucks are bedding hunt close to the beds. You have a greater chance catching one on his feet during daylight. Our main rut here is around the 15th of Nov. Does that haven't been bred and a few doe fawns that come into their first heat cycle should get the bucks going again around the10th - 15th of December. I see it here every year unless the deer are stressed from bitter cold or lack of food... especially the doe fawns. Watch the bucks for a bit of chasing... in other words don't put that CAN CALL away yet. LOL Trails leading to food sources are your best bet though as the does will be concentrating on feeding also with winter coming. Good luck !! Tim
