I can't imagine not carrying health and prescription insurance. I can, however, see people only carrying a catastrophic policy. I would guess that in my twenties, I went to the doctor less than once an year, and never went to the hospital. If I had taken the money I was paying for insurance, and invested it, or put it into some type of savings account, I would have had a lot of money 10 years later. There are literally millions of people in this same situation. Now, they are being required a policy that far exceeds their needs. Why? So they can help carry the load for those that aren't paying into the system?
When Obama came up with this "plan", he swore no one would be knocked off their present plan and the democrats passed it before they knew what was in it. When the website was built by a foreign company, not until the news started reporting how poorly built it was did Obama say anything, and then it was "I didn't know it wasn't working." Now that people are losing their plans, Obama is saying "I didn't know this would happen." This is HIS plan and he doesn't know the ramifications of it; and the democrats passed it without knowing what it would do? What does it take for people to realize, this is all BS?
I have nothing against having health care. My employer is small and doesn't offer it. But I make too much money to get any kind of subsidy from the government. Lately I have been trying to find an individual plan but with these new "laws" it's exceedingly difficult to find a basic cataclysmic plan. I don't go to the doctor regularly and wont need to for 10 years or more. So why should I pay for health insurance I don't use? Oh wait...that's the entire idea behind the ACA. I just want something encase of an accident or sudden health change.
What is postponing for a year going to do to help? People will be right back in this situation a year from now, and you will have to add all the provisions that go into effect next year on top of it. What a steaming pile of crap.
Obama forgot the #1 rule of sales. Under promise, Over deliver. In fact has done nothing but the opposite for his entire term.
He didn't sell anything. He lied and made it sound like something it was never intended to be. That's not selling, that swindling. He made it happen because he wanted it to happen regardless of what the people thought. Now the ACA has enrollment numbers that want to make most democrats cry because the "perfect system" they envisioned is nothing close to the reality. The federal government has no place providing or mandating health care and I think we are all seeing why. If people can't see this for the FUBAR idea that it is, they are delusional. Worst idea since ethanol in gasoline.
Why? So, when you do get sick or hurt and rack up tens of thousands of bills, the rest of us don't have to pay for it through higher taxes, healthcare costs and premiums. Because its socially irresponsible to do otherwise. Rant over.
Self Employed. Insurance went from around 600/mo with $1000/ded, & $25 co-pay to....... over $1200/mo with $2500/ded, & 45 co-pay Oh yeah... & the new policy has maternity care for my wife who's been spayed Frustrating to say the least
As you can see from the responses, the self-employed are being absolutely robbed by ACA. I'm pissed to say the least!
A catastrophic plan would prevent that. Why don't you read the entire post before running your mouth. I've been trying to find a suitable plan, however, obummer has made it even harder now since the plan I have sitting in front of me is no longer available due to his minimum coverage law b.s. /rant
Still plenty of plans available. I just sold two high deductible plans today. Its available and affordable. The plans are still available if you select a coverage date prior to the end of this year. Any agent with any experience in health insurance should easily figure that out.
In the twenty or so CBA contracts I been reviewing, the avg stated yearly premium increase for family plans is over 10% and individual plans slightly higher. For comparison only, all the CBA contracts are in the upstate New York area. Our own family plan has projected an increase of 14% for 2014, with half of the increase being contractually met by the employer. So in simple terms we are paying and additional 7% on our monthly premiums.
The backbone of this country is small business. The majority of small business owners, & micro business owners are getting HAMMERED with health insurance costs, & have been for the last few years. It's not like, this happened Oct 1st. The premiums started shooting up several years ago when the ACA got passed. The premium rise has been every year. This gives the talking heads the ability to say, oh....premiums only went up 10% since this law took effect. Horse puckey. They've been going up dramatically for several years now. The REAL question would be, what was your premium 4-5 years ago vs. today..? Many are double. Mine is. & with much worse coverage. Compare that with the increase from 10yrs ago to 5yrs ago... & the difference is obvious.
