Possible spring food suggestions.

Not directly over it is mainly what ive heard in some cases your suppose to set up in the "transition" area between food and bedding

 

To my understanding that is the best way to go about it. I just hear about so many guys putting a set right on the treeline of their plot or sometimes smack dab in the middle. Seems like a good way to scare off all the deer you've been trying to bring in.

 

Clover/Chicory will be going in for us here soon, getting it in while still cool early May will help that mix flourish like planting it in the fall.

However, the plots we will be doing fall plantings will be getting a collection of various things we can get cheap from our local seed shop...buckwheat, peas and sunflower will be three for sure here and there with some oats and perhaps some crimson clover sprinkled in for good measure. All are pretty cheap, some being very cheap (buckwheat) and very easy to grow and the deer love them.

 

I do Iron & Clay cow peas the deer love them and they are good for the fall plots because they put nitrogen back in the ground so they help fertilize the fall crops.
