When you plant buckwheat do you plant as you would anything else? I keep gettin mixed answers. Some say you dont need to lime some don't need fertilizer.....this is confusing I just need some straight answers!

Buckwheat is a scavenger for nutrients.no real need to Lime. To high a ph will harm the growth. No real need to fertilize it either..

Clover alfalfa chicory plant in spring once the soil temps hit 50degrees or higher. Usually april here in Illinois. Fertilizer at planting and it'll be up in 7-14 days. Heartland wildlife institute rack maker plus is drought tolerant and greens up fast. I planted 25@ last year of it in april and it was bright green in the drought come july and I killed 7 deer with a bow off of it. Its awesome seed.
This pic was taken in july during a month long drought first year seeding. [IMG]

How was your weed competition? Did you spray?

chicory pretty much prohibits weed growth because of its big broad leafs

Not necessarily. I suppose it depends on your seeding rates, but I've had spring competition between weeds and previous clover/chicory plots, even sometimes July planted turnips

Again, it's situational, but it's one of the many reasons I prefer fall plantings.

Then again, I don't use Arrow, Select, or Butyrac (or any herbicide really).

Case in point (maybe I just have bad luck :D):

Spring planted turnip/kale/clover (experimental spring planting):

    This was June:

By August, foxtail had really flourished amongst it (not enough to choke it out, though):

How well will this mix do in semi shaded 4-6 hours of sunlight areas?

For the guys that have already established their plots, do you hunt directly off the plot itself? I have heard this is something to be avoided but I have heard mixed answers...

I don't think you sunlight will be the prohibitive factor, 'sall I'm saying.
