Was hunting on the ground in a nice little weed patch. Temp is around 15 - 20 with a good breeze. Had 4 doe, 3 fawns and a little buck come up and start feeding 35 yards away right before sun down. Wind dropped off but still in my favor. One of the does ( a nice one ) and her fawn head my way. She will walk by at roughly 15 yards.

Just before she hits my shooting lane... I slowly start to draw back. You all know the feeling you get when someone runs their nails across a chalk board. I am feeling the same thing as I draw the arrow across the rest. The doe stops dead in her tracks with just her head in the shooting lane. She is apparently feeling the same thing as me but stands there for a few seconds. She gets nervous... doesn'ts blow but back tracks to the group with her fawn.

She settles down and goes back to feeding in about 5 minutes. No one is the wiser except for me. About another 5 minutes go by and another doe starts heading my way. This time the plan is to wait until she gets in the shooting lane and draw back fast. That way if she stops for a few seconds I can get the shot of. I knew she would hear me draw. She hits the shooting lane and I crank the string back. The chalk board feeling seems to be worse for both of us. She whirls and runs back to the group. I am pissed big time now and forcing myself not to rip the whisker biscuit off and throw it at them.

They are all still feeding in the original spot until dark... 35 yards away.

I've pulled many arrows across it and never heard anything this year. Earlier this fall I shot the one doe with the same condition except it was 50 degrees. Other then yesterday is the first time I hunted with it in this cold of weather... which isn't that cold. Geeze I would hate to hear how loud it is on a really cold day. I did pulled it back at the start of each hunt but the wind was blowing pretty good and I didn't hear anything.

I like the rest but will have to get a smoother finished arrow. The goldtip XT Hunters are not a real smooth finished arrow. So in the end it was probably was my fault. Still sucks !!! LOL Hopefully a smoother finished arrow quiets it down in cold weather.

Tomorrow I will pull out the other bow with the Rip Cord rest to finish the year. The Rip Cord can be a pain as I've had few problems with moisture getting in it with the conditions I hunt in but it is quiet in cold weather. I've got it mole skinned.

    End of Rant !!!

that stinks! I've had the whisker biscuit for a few years now and have no complaints.

Might want to check the WB for debris as well....maybe a twig or something go caught in the whiskers while walking to your spot?

TJF, that is the very reason I quite using the WB when I was shooting a compound. I could not stand that sound and neither could the deer.

Nope... first thing I checked. I thought maybe I got some snow on it or cattail fuzz.. Was clean and dry.

I am thinking it is just the rough finish on the arrow. Sound carried really bad tonight after the wind died down. That didn't help !!!!

I noted this 6 yrs ago using Radial X-Weave arrows.

I had the same thing happen on the first buck I ever drew back on. I left my stand that AM and took the WB off.

    Good luck.

I took off the whisker biscuit probably 5-6 years ago. I was using aluminum arrows at the time. I switched to a 360 capture rest last year and was very happy.

Those things are just bad rests, there are so many other good rests out there, I would think that experience would be enough for you to stop shooting it. Good luck...

Yep, I ditched the biscuit for that same reason. I switched to a Nap Apache, and never looked back!

I absolutely loved my WB all summer, all fall, then cold temps hit and just what you stated. I wasnt happy having to switch rests in the middle of November.

I always pushed my finger through the hole in cold weather to make sure the bristles weren't frozen up. Never had a problem with it but I was always nervous with the wet we have down low and the freeze as you climb into the cold. I did notice that Maximas were noticeably more noisy than A/C/C or Axis shafts.

I switched to a QAD Ultra Rest before my old wb could give away my position.

That has also happened to me and that is why mine got tossed in the garbage the same day. The only difference was I was in a tree and it was a 12 point buck. He was a typical 10 with matching forked G-2's. I will never forget that day and I will never own one again! I also switched to the QAD Ultra Rest and love it. NO complaints on that rest and has never failed on me yet in years!

Wax your arrows like we used to do with prong rests, never had problems here.

Best piece of advice I can give you is this simple step-by-step procedure...
    1. Find Allen wrench
    2. Remove said POS Whisker Biscuit
    3. Place said POS Whisker Biscuit in trash with authority!

I hate those rests! Yes they're idiotproof, but they eat fletchings, and affect arrow flight on every shot. Unless you're a beginner or just don't know any better, get a containment drop away. I highly recommend the Ripcord Code Red!

    I love my WB :D

Sorry Tim, I use Blackhawk Vapors and haven't had any noise issues. My son bought some arrows at Cabelas and they were noisy in his WB.

I had this exact thing happen to me. Once last year and once again this year, both with smart old does. I made a thread about it at the beginning of the season asking if anyone had ideas to make it quieter. But like most everyones on this thread, most recommendations were to take the thing off.

I was pissed most of all because its hard enough to get them in bow range, but to have a equipment issue mess you up when you finally do get them in range was enough. I will be swapping rests in February once our season ends. I do like these rests though, and would recommend them to anyone starting out bowhunting, but i will no longer be using it.
