I'll say it, I love Sportsmans Guide. If you ever order from them get their buyers club membership. Usually they will give it to you with your first order for like 10-15 bucks(rather than 30) because they will take off the shipping charges. Not to mention they always e-mail coupons for $10 off shipping or $10 off orders of $50 or more. But anyway they have some pretty sweet deals on some portable stands and sticks right now. They are very durable, well built stands but they are a little heavy. Sticks: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/guide-gear-20-climbing-stick.aspx?a=547725&pn=1 Portablesnothing fancy but very practical) http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/guide-gear-24x29-1-2-hang-on-tree-stand.aspx?a=547757&pn=2 Stick & Stand Combo;(small platform) http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/climbing-stick-and-tree-stand-combo-by-guide-gear.aspx?a=552579 My favorite: (On sale last week for $44.97 but back up to $53.97) http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/deluxe-fixed-tree-stand-by-guide-gear.aspx?a=450119 While tripods are usually associated with gun hunting I have enjoyed this one in windbreaks with small trees and edges of cutovers/marsh with limited trees available for a more traditional set up. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/pinnacle-tripod-tower-tree-stand-by-big-game.aspx?a=537362 Hope it's alright to post this, if not my apologies.
LOL. Yeah the pic is funny. But all jokes aside I have one like that and a 10' one similiar to that I have killed 3 deer from but my setup looks nothing like that. Windbreaks, hedgerows, brushy field edges w/small trees I have had good luck with and I bought those stands specifically for those unique spots. The 10' stand I got for $71 and the other was $139, so not a significant investment.
They stand behind their products and everything I've used from them has been solid. Some of the stands are a little heavier than the big name brands but other than that no real complaints. For the record I'm 6'2 pushing 240# and have never had a problem with any of the sticks or stands from them. The one I marked as my favorite above is very solid and quite comfortable as well.
VA's right. I have a spot where I could totally use that stand on a hedgerow with no trees that would take a stand. Cool.
I have been telling people about these stands for a while now too! IMO, you can't beat the afforability for a stand no less safe than the $100 counterparts. I have 1 of the stands, and 2 20' stick ladders. Making another purchase tomorrow for 1 more stand/stick combo and 2 more stick ladders. They are heavy, but I view them as NOT portable setups (as in, I set them in the summer or possibly first hunt of year, and if they are moved during season, it is from tree to tree in a specific area). The stick ladders are heavy and cumbersome, but MAN are they quick, easy, and reliable to set up! I agree 100%, can't beat Sportsmans Guide deals if they have the specific product you are looking for.
I was just in D*cks Sporting Goods and saw a hang on for $34.95. Granted it is not a stand I would want to spend all day on but it looked OK for an afternoon hunt. Secures to tree with 2 ratchet straps and looked pretty decent...especially for $34.95.
Yes. I agree NEW, I use the buyer's club membership and have saved a ton of money over the last few years on quality stuff. Especially stands.
They just put a 16 footer up for 70. Check your e-mail for their shipping coupons too. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/guide-gear-16-deluxe-ladder-stand.aspx?a=547756&pn=3
