I am planning on buying a new bow soon and want to try to set it up myself. I am looking for suggestions for a protable bow press from those of you who have used one that you think is functional and easy to use.

I have a bowmaster press and that seems to work awesome for me, and it also gives me a better piece of mind knowing i can slowly back it down instead of the ratchet technique but that's just my .02.

You can back down a ratchet just as easy & slowly as you can tighten it.

I use it for everything, it's my only press. Changed my sting & cable, insert peep... Works perfect for me.

I have the bowmaster also, works well for me although if your bow has split limbs you need the adapter wich is another $50 or so

Whatever you get, you have to be sure that it will work with your bow. The newer beyond parallel, short limbed bows would be impossible to work on with most field presses. I had trouble with Fitz's ratchet style press on my DXT but I was just barely able to get it to work. However, it was so tight up against the cam you couldn't remove or work on the cam/idler.
