Justin pretty much summed it up from my viewpoint. I would have liked to see the change, but it's has no impact on me or my season. I'll be shooting lighted nocks for the first time this this year.

The simple solution is use all the gizmos and enter it in BC, they don't care either way.

Not saying I never would or won't but just like P&Y...I don't need an organization or "certified certificate" for validation a harvest is a trophy. Some guys do need that status "symbol" some don't, but in the end like you stated there is a trophy organization out there for everyone who desires the validation.

Agreed. The best solution for me personally is to hunt the way I want to hunt and not worry about any particular organization's rules. I neither like nor dislike the Pope and Young club. I'm pretty much indifferent and I have no desire to have my name on some list just because I killed a buck. I promise you that if I killed a 200" buck with my recurve this season it wouldn't be entered in the P&Y or B&C books.

I don't use lighted nocks because I've found that white wraps with white blazers and a white nock work just as well for what I believe is the real purpose (seeing where the arrow hits the deer), but I can't help feeling that it's a bit on the ridiculous side to minimize the accomplishments of a hunter who does want their entry recorded in the books just because the nock of their arrow is illuminated.

I can somewhat understand why P&Y would not want to take any "first step" down the "electronic components" road, but it also seems to me that they should be able to draw a common sense line that would differentiate between things that don't give hunters any additional advantage to that which they already have (lighted nocks) and those that do, say something like a laser sight? I know that those are illegal, but let's use that for argument's sake.

I can't help wondering how P&Y feels about my Trijicon Accupin bowsight. It's illuminated, but it's not electronic - it's radioactive.

I will still use my lighted nocks. Like many of you have said their club their rules. I have deer that are trophy's to me but would not make the book. I think trophy's should honor the hunt not your ego.

I don't care either way and to say a lighted nock doesn't help you kill a deer is accurate but also not quite the full story as far as I'm concerned. As stated on here it aids in the recovery of animals which I'm all for but I don't feel just shooting an animal is all there is to it actually finding the deer is all part of the hunt I mean you need to find it to enter it right? So to separate the two is a mistake in my view and maybe some of the members feel it requires less skill to track and find a deer shot with a lighted nock and therefore make it unworthy of book entry. Again I don't care either way I'm just trying to think of the reasoning behind the decision.

Because no one EVER took iffy shots before those things were around, nor do those that don't use them ever take iffy shots. It doesn't matter the equipment used, those that are going to take iffy shots will.

Agree with much of what has been said but I find it humorous that they draw a fine line when any modern compound bow could technically be considered every bit as much of an electronic assist. Modern compounds are concieved of in a virtual environment, tested in a simulated environment, built by precision machines and tested with precision machines. This is a little bit like Amish using a local pay phone but refusing to own one....

Lighted knocks are a tool for location and future shot placement improvment as well as an aid in catching the kill shot on video. It's not like a laser pointer, etc. Just another thing to make P&Y even more irrelevant to most of us bowhunters...which is probably what has lead up to having such a low vote turnout.

As far as what was said about emboldening hunters to take a late shot....that's just silly...most guys will chance a late shot at a trophy anyway....I'd rather they do it with a better idea as to where they hit or how far they missed.

At the time of entering an animal into the books P&Y offers, not requires, membership at a discount. $20 instead of the regular $40. Measurers are not allowed to charge for their time but can ask for contribution for expense; postage, photos, etc. That is likely what the $5.00 was for.

The word you're looking for is mechanical not electrical.

I fail to see anyway whatsoever that a lighted nock helps with shot placement improvement. You know where to aim before you ever see the nock, if I make shot that's too far back I know it was either a mechanical failure on the bow or a form failure on me.

Man I could really care less about this stuff. I just climb a tree with a bow and look to kill things. At the end of the day it is all about the hunt.

While I agree that something like that is harmless and won't help you kill a deer, there has to be a line drawn somewhere. If you continue to add equipment to make it easier and less work then what's the point? I think that is there reasoning behind it. As a group dedicated to the sport of archery they feel it is in the best interest of the sport. If you need a bow and equipment that does everything for you then you should probably just use a gun to go "hunting". Also the excuse that someone needs it to see where the shot hits the deer is a poor one. That means that it's to dark to shoot.

It just goes to show that even with a majority of the members voting for lighted nocks, the voting panel members (the only vote that counts) don't give a rats butt what the members want. They are going to do as THEY want, not what the peons want.

No, the word I was looking for was a modern technological advantage, electric powered or created with advanced precision electronic equipment but thanks for trying....

Not everyone wraps their own arrows with all the white they can get on them or use a custom arrow that is highly visible, the knocks are easy to use and fast to install. I hunt back in dense brush much of the time and by the time fall rolls around back in tall water oak timber in late afternoon or just on a cloudy day...lighting is dark well within legal shooting hours. Dark enough to make use of the lit knocks or fiber pins for that matter. If you don't think they will help with future shot placement then you must have forgotten what it was like when you were just a couple years into bowhunting and inexperienced with shooting from a treestand in multiple scenarios.

Not that I'm trying to hammer on ya and really not that it matters that much I guess. I don't use them either and never have been a P&Y member but I do have a spot in their records with a 145 5/8 8 point. I had it mounted and my taxidermist scored it and submitted it for me. I don't feel I need it or that it's of utmost importance but I am still proud of it and the fact that it's "confirmed" as an official accomplishment that is recorded.

In reality the board voted the same % as the members. They needed 1 more vote to pass.

Makes no sense, a lighted knock doesn't influence the shot.

It aids in recovery. Where do they draw the line? Laser guided broadheads?, gps tracking heads?
