I could not name TWO people in this area that enter their animals in PY or BC. However, NEARLY everyone recognizes the scoring system. It is used in terms of reference in size and uniqueness. IMO, there are more deer entered in the above states for TWO main reasons. 1-There are more deer killed that reach the criteria. 2-Outfitters house people who "care" more about the score then other states. It is also my opinion, that more non-res folks care about entering the score, then residents (hence above). * The main point of this thread is to prove what everyone already knows. More 125" deer live in the Midwest then any other region of the world* There you go atlas - someone said it.
Retarded thing to say..............everyone already knows that. What I am looking for is NUMBERS and not ranks because one without the other is meaningless.
What year is this from?? I thought PA was 8th after AR's were implemented??.............at least that's what I was told in another thread. Any numbers of entries to go with those ranks?? Michigan is 7th in typicals and didn't make the list for non??
1999 it's older data. Sorry I forgot to put that in. Yes being we have a lot of swamps we do not get as many non-typicals here in MI. I am trying to put numbers for you, give me some time. I am going to get the newer edition of a book on Monday. Mine is old.
How many big bucks come from each state is a very poor indicater of how good or poor the hunting is per state for the most part (except for the obvious states at each end of the spectrum). IMO the ultimate indicater would be P&Y bucks per huntable acre..... Not per state.
Bruce, you partially answered your own question. Does do not have anything to measure, unless you measure their tits. However they do deserve respect just as any game animal does. I have fond memories of some of the does I've taken and often tell stories of those hunts. I have seen a lot of the posts telling how canny the older wiser does can be, I agree they can be very wary and wise. I've also stated that I believe that older mature bucks are still a notch tougher to hunt than these does. Just my opinion. I have always been fascinated with deer and respect them all. If bucks didn't have antlers, I'd still have great memories that were special to me. I imagine then the guidelines for determining a great specimen would be based on size. I'm not sure how much interest that would draw, but I know it wouldn't be like it is with antlers.
Dan, let me fix this for you. In my haste, I left out a word (see bold blue). Now for the last part. As I stated from the beginning, I don't believe that being competitive has anything to do with it. You've got the Iowans and quite a few of the illini on here stating the they and anyone they know does not enter their bucks. Are these people not competitive? I think they are, just as all people are by nature competitive. Again, here is what I believe........ Oh, and this........... The only one a hunter has to compete with is himself to better themselves as a hunter. If they compete against other hunters, I want nothing to do with them and probably won't be hanging around those sites. It's bad for hunting. Period.
Cool.........thanks. Being able to compare with 1999 would be interesting as well. The numbers are really the only useful information when analyzing such a list.
That was cool and where did MI go:p Notice KY and Indiana moving up, that has to do with a change in their regs.
I have entered bucks into the p&y record book... And it isn't so people could see my name. Very few people even know my first name as I have gone by my middle name since the day I was born. So even if someone was to happen to see my entries, they wouldn't know it was me anyhow.
That was mean of your dad to name you Nancy !! LOL Dammit now you got me curious... my guess is Richard although I was leaning towards Sylvester at first. Tim
Canada don't have their own book? I'm a member of the P&Y club and have a couple of entries In there (big deal I say). Hunting to me Is also a past time but more so It's time I can spend with my dad. It's got nothing to do with records, none. Also, If I remember correctly there was a P&Y convention held In Canada somewhere not just to long ago so there Is Interest there. But yes you are right, the popularity of the club doesn't seem to be as high there. I always here people say from Canada we have our own "book". Same ****, different book don't ya think.
I think most states have their own also, in MI it's CBM and it takes 100'' to get in. What are the limits on other states? Do any know your own state?
100" in NC (bow).....and I've not entered any of mine. And I've never seen a buck here that would GROSS 125" (over 350 sits). I've also never seen one in my gamecam photos. In fact, I haven't seen one that would be within 10" of that. Is what it is. No complaints, here. Just facts.
