none of my stands are looking good for an early buck chance.. so ill just have to go for my does and wait for rut to produce a shooter.. got a few little guys that are legal but id like to wait for something nice.
here is a new buck that showed up. I'm guessing he's a small 2 year old? This place never has big bucks until the rut come in. So I will most likely not put any points on the board until later on in the season.
yep. Looks 2.5 to me. if the paunch sagged and he wasn't so square, I'd say 3.5. Rack doesn't always determine age, but the body will give you good clues. He's young and as square as they come. Good looking deer tho!
I'm sure one of the neighbors will fill a tag with him, because they don't allow any bucks to get big.
It looks like we are missing one team mate Timmyboy8386. I sent him a PM. I'm going to go ahead and sign us up for a replacement.
I went ahead and requested a replacement for TimmyBoy8386 as he hasn't posted anything since July when he signed up for the contest. Hopefully he'll check in cause he has some bucks in his album marked 2012. Fingers crossed
Checked one of my cameras on saturday, got a nice 9 with split brows, scores around 140. Dont know if I can pull the trigger on a deer like that. Have tried to post pics, and for some reason it is my computer or i am supposed to stay a hunter not a tech guy. If I dont get a chance opening weekend it will be odd since I have so many shooters on one field. For that particular spot I now have 12 different shooters coming in with regularity.
Sorry guys, looks like you are stuck with me as a ringer Edit: To expand on me a little. Name is Mike, this is only my 2nd season hunting and I have yet to bag anything. Had an extremely busy summer and never made time to scout my property. Finally got out at the end of last week to get my feeder up and a camera out. The movement on our property has been very inconsistent it seems. I am in Southern WV, they don't grow very big here, and they grow even smaller on my over hunted steep land. Hopefully I can put some points on the board for us.
Hey Mike! Welcome to the Team! No worries about the size of the deer in your area. Does count too! Just have fun, we are all in this together. ------------------- As far as Big game Trail cameras. No, I've never used one. I used a Stealth cam and a wildview. Both work fine.
Great Teken or Mike, welcome to the team and the Big 12. I believe its WV that moved to the big. 12? I'm a Jayhawk (KU) living in IL. Thanks for checking in and glad your here. Just enjoy the experience and don't worry about points.
T-minus 2.5 days until opener and I am loosing my mind. The anticipation this year is killing me. I am hunting a new area and wanted to get your thoughts on my spot. I tried to explain on the map as best as possible what my scenario is, what are your thoughts? Suggestions etc? The x marks my stand, and the arrow is my path to get to the stand.
Where is the water source? Do they walk the fence line south of your stand? what are you cutting them off on the way to? you planning on hunting that with a south or east wind?
The water source is all around, there is a lake just to the lower left off the map. Also, the weird green zig zag is part of a canal system that follows the tree line to the left all the way up. To the left it becomes quite swampy and nasty (I have hunted a different part of the swamp in years past with mixed results). There is not a fence line to the south of me, but it does look like that on the map, if I recall it is a low ditch. They seem to walk it going between the edge of the corn field and the bedding area. Saturday and Sunday are calling for S SW winds up to 13 mph. North is up on the map. The upside down Y is a field of CRP
turkish do our team a favor and put us on the board this weekend. lol Best of luck to you buddy I still have few weeks before I'm able to hit the woods.
