Does anybody have any experience shooting through the "shoot-through" mesh on a pop up blind?

I will be hog hunting out of my Ameristep Caretaker this weekend and wonder if shooting through the mesh would mess with my shot (probably will use G5 Montec broadhead).

It shouldnt, especially if youre using a fixed blade. If you have the blind with you already you could always run a few practice shots thru the mesh and figure out exactly how they fly.

I've heard both ways on how it effects arrow flight, but I just pull the mesh down and run without. When I was in Texas last year on a hog hunt, I don't think the mesh would have made a difference one way or the other. I'd assume your hunting them over bait like most hog hunts are? If that's the case I'd just keep it as dark on the inside as possible like I would for a deer hunt.

Ive always pulled em down and been fine. One tip, setup the blind so the sun is at your back, this will keep the blind dark on the inside and keep you hidden.

Thanks for the input. The evening sun is at my back so I'm covered there.... I'll consider that for future pop up blind set-ups. I think I'll leave the choice of shooting through to a gametime decision.... hell I'll probably just try it just to see.

You'd be right about hog hunting over bait - that is a common way down here in Texas. Depending on the pack, I'd agree with you... it may not make a difference one way or the other. I have observed some very cautions boars though (and been busted)... but even so If I keep everything dark it probably wont matter. I'll let yall know of any success (or failure).

I heart shot a doe this season shooting through mesh out of an Ameristep Blind. She was dead in 30 yards. As long as its a fixed blade you should be fine. I would not want to risk a mechanical deploying on the mesh though. Good luck with the hogs.

The only negative review I've heard on shoot through mesh was from someone who shot through with a high powered rifle. And his complaint was the mesh catching fire

I've had several friends that were successful doing it but I don't like to chance it.

(although the turkey that I shot last fall was shot with an arrow that didn't quite get over the window edge!)

Like others said, shooting thru mesh should not be a problem as long as you are using fixed blade broadheads.

I used to shoot through them with the Allen mechanical from Walmart and now with the Grim Reaper Whitetail Specials. Works great. The screen has always opened my Rage broadhead though. Maybe using too heavy of screen though. I make replacements with the mesh from Walmart.
