Anybody ever been on an aoudad hunt? I'm wondering just how INexpensive a hunt like this can be had for??? Looking "fair chase"......semi-guided - OK (but not mandatory). Looking at 2011.
Aoudad can be found crawling all over the hills and mountains of SW OK and into Texas. You might search that area and see what you can find. There is a group of mountins about 5 miles from my primary hunting spot in my hometown where a herd of 100+ is frequently seen. P.S. I could possibly help you find something, if you need help.
A buddy of mine use to guide with IMB and a ranch in Texas. The Texas ranch had the aoudad and from the pics, they looked pretty decent to me ( of course not ever seeing one in real life, well...you know??). If you need info. on that ranch, I can talk with him about it and get his opinion on that particular ranch. If I remember correctly, I don't think the prices were too bad but that has been a few years back.
I've been looking into this hunt recently. It seems the fair chase part is what eliminates 80% of the operations. If I could get into a free ranging herd of them, I'd go this fall (depending on their season).
I'll see if I can get in touch with John this week. His fiancee' gives horseback riding lessons to my daughter. I'll pm any advice his gives on that ranch or any names of other ranches he might suggest.
J, Look into New Mexico. They have awesome free range opportunities. The tag is pretty cheap too. Be ready to have your hinny handed to you. Aoudad or Barbery sheep are as tough as they come to hunt with a bow. Here's a link: http://www.huntthewest.com/updates-barbarysheep.htm
