So how hard is it to actually make a homebrew?

If you can solder and run a drill, not bad at all. This particular one was a Sony P41. The hack was very easy. I think wiring for external batteries on this model was awkward, but not too bad. I'm just waiting on my case now to finish the build.

I have used a lot of different trail cameras. I will say 2 stand out as being very user friendly and work well also. Probably the most reliable are the Reconyx cameras. But when it comes to picture quality, flash range, and battery life which is what I believe most people are looking for Moultrie stands out. I went to all Moultries because I had a camera stolen and it scared me to think it could have been a $450 Reconyx. I ended up selling the 2 Reconyx cams I owned and purchasing 4 Moultries.

I also use a Big Rack Trophy Products 300. It works well but the flash range is not close to what the Moultries are.

Kind of fun to put cams up on a mineral sites,I often put two or three different brand of cams on the same hole you will be surprised at the difference in trigger counts. even with the same brand and model no matter who's it is. I have taken two brand new cams out of the box,new battery's and new sd cards set both up with the same settings and have one get 40 more pics in the same day during testing.

Sure. I'm no expert, but I can point you in the right direction if necessary.

    Im curious,

Does anybody in the industry have any sales numbers on trail cams? Which company sold the most? categories? Individual model? ect?

Im assuming Moultrie does the most, but i honestly dont know...

Moultries are in every Wal-Mart and Cabelas. They get an INSANE amount of exposure.
