The best bow on the market for me is the one I killed my last deer with. ;-) Its all about what you shoot well as an individual.
I'm a Hoyt fan, but haven't had a chance to shoot a lot of different bows. I have a buddy that swears up and down his Bowtech is gods gift to bow hunters, we both hit consistent groups at 40 yard, but his pin set up allows him to reach out further, where as I'm compensating going over the 40 yard range (never felt any reason to shoot further than 40 yards at a animal). Since we've both bought our bows my Hoyt has killed a deer and his Bowtech hasn't, he's lost 3 deer now by wounding and not recovering 2 and completely missing 1 :X, where I've let one arrow fly at a deer and and got meat in the freezer, but that doesn't change his attitude he still brags that bow up and down like he's bagged 20 deer with the thing and hasn't missed a bullseye the 1,000 times he's shot the thing at a target lol. I got another buddy who swears by Mathews bows. He's got a lot of experience in the field and is quite competitive at the 3D bow shoots we go to. But again he has a better over all set than me, but I can shoot just as tight of groups and am just as consistent up to 40 yards. He's more of the humble type and doesn't try to talk his bow up, he lets his bow do the talking for him. What I've witnessed when we all got together to shoot is that none of our bows are really superior to the other but more depends on who's operating the bow, they can all get the job done.
I like a lot of different bows and companies out there. This will sound weird, but the biggest turn off to Mathews is the fan boys...lol. Will buy and think it's best cause it says Mathews. Sent from my XT830C
I've had good luck with Bear. The bows that I have bought are tough and last for years. Whether they are better or not then other brands... means nothing to me. I am not looking for pretty or the latest and greatest. I want something that shoots well, is tough and lasts for years. So far every Bear bow I have bought has done that and I didn't need to break the bank to buy one. Tim
And that doesnt turn you off about Hoyt? Hoyt and Mathews have some of the biggest fan boys of all. Or maybe you are one of them? lol
That's pretty funny...lol. I own PSE, Hoyt,Bowtech right now just to name a few I have now. I knew that post would bring one out....lol. Hoyt has some fan boys no doubt... But nothing like Mathews has. I also like some of Mathews bows. Loved the Helim and Creed. Now the No Cam, not so much. Sent from my XT830C
I was just yanking your chain. lol But Hoyt has just as many fan boys as Mathews. I see nothing wrong with someone that likes their bow but calling all other bows junk or to say x brand bows are the best bows and the rest are junk nowadays is just small minded and stupid imo. And you see a ton of it with Hoyt and Mathews guys and some Bowtech guys.
That's true you do. I'm really liking Elite. Just not sure about the grips just yet...lol. xpedition is making some nice ones too. Sent from my XT830C
When I was choosing a bow, I looked at most of them. I ended up going w. my Prime because it was innovative, I loved the fit and finish and how it felt in the hand. Loved the back wall and good draw cycle. I didn't buy a Mathews because I didn't care for the fit and finish, just to rough around the gridlock for my liking. Also, I've never been one the bought the "in" brand of anything. I just don't care for the look of the Hoyt's. Didn't like the PSE's because of the short brace heights. Nothing from Baer excited me. I really liked the Elites fit and finish, but I didn't get a chance to shoot one. I didn't really even look at the bow-tech's, no reason in particular. I just didn't see anything that jumped out to me.
I see way more Mathews stickers on the back of trucks when I'm driving around. And I know a few who don't even own Mathews bows or even bow hunt. Kinda like all the people with browning stickers on their trucks who don't own a browning gun or even hunt they just associate the buckmark with being "country"
Mathews never impressed me much. I just never understood what made them so special, other than a name. In my opinion, they have produced pretty much the exact same bow, with a different riser for the last 10 years or so. Same old single cam technology, just a new cut out riser and a ton of marketing. How anyone can say they've innovated in the last ten years is beyond me. Hoyt hasn't been much better. Now, this year, Mathews has finally done something that I see as innovative with the No-Cam bow. While its certainly not new technology, its new in a sense that no one is offering a bow like this and its actually getting decent speeds for a wheel bow. I'll be interested to see where it goes from here. The biggest thing that Mathews has on everyone is their marketing. They throw money at countless TV shows, multi page magazine ads, plaster their name on as many accessories as they can get their hands on, created their own camo pattern so they can justify it, sponsor hordes of pro shooters and charge premium prices for anything with a Mathews logo on it. I liken Mathews to Apple. Its an iconic thing more than anything else. Sure, its in iPhone, but its not necessarily better. But, all Apple needs to do is slap a fruit logo on something and the legions of fans will buy it up regardless. Mathews does the same exact thing.
