That line about hunters not being able to tell the difference between a Grizz and a black bear is BS. My kids could tell the difference at 8 years-old when we went camping in Yellowstone. If a hunter cannot tell the difference, he is not a hunter; just someone who likes to hike with a weapon. Its the animal-loving idiots that treat wild animals like petting zoo animals that are the problem; the very people that file these lawsuits.

    Agreed.

We have citiots around me that don't believe people eat bear meat either. They also believe there are a bunch of folks trapping bears near Asheville, because someone has seen / has pics or heard of one or more bear without a paw... Talk about trash pandas... Black bears (no griz here) near our towns/cities are a nuance.

Even a lot of hunters like to hate on bear meat but it’s actually really good as long as it’s processed right. You gotta make sure to get every last bit of fat out of it (not as easy as it sounds once you realize just how much fat they have), vacuum seal it well, and get it in the freezer asap. Even then you gotta eat it within a few months. The meat, and any remaining fat in particular, has this strange ability to spoil while frozen solid, even in a manual defrost freezer set at -20 american degrees. In addition to good meat, bears also come packaged inside of a really badass rug.

I just re-read this - are you talking about bears or raccoons? Around here trash panda means raccoons. Doesn’t change my earlier statement. Raccoon meat is also under appreciated meat that requires careful preparation and while they’re a bit small to make a rug out of, they do make great hats.
