Most commercial electric cars are using Lithium based batteries, which are sensitive to temps. There are many types of battery that aren't as temp sensitive, but are impractical for various reason. For now, you may be best to stick to the horse, diesel, gas... Battery tech is pretty rapidly changing and pretty cutting edge...which is why we continue to hear about other options (hydrogen, fuel cells, solar, and more). As mentioned, the the elephant in the room - most power produced in the US relies on fossil fuels...as do the production of green alternatives (solar, hydro, wind, nuke, geo, etc)...
I have never been a brand specific guy. I have driven Chevy, Ford and GMC. For whatever reason, we have had our best luck with the GMC's so far. I thought the fancy tailgate was just marketing BS, until I used it. I gotta admit, that step gate is really freaking nice! I would guess all major brands will have something similar in another couple years when I am looking to trade again. Another reason for GMC is that the dealer is 35 minutes away, but will bring us a new rig to drive, pick ours up for service and then bring it back to swap. I can't find that kind of service anywhere else. They also hand wash and detail the vehicle inside and out when servicing it for us. So I guess its more about the service than the brand for me.
Does not matter the brand if you get a new lease every 3 years you will have very few issues. I like the smooth quiet spacious ride of my Silverado.
